So my winter project noted here continues:

Winter off season project engine compartment “clean up” and engine repaint.

Tomorrow I plan on swapping out my solid motor mounts for a pair of DynaTech Mighty Mounts. All accessories are off the engine and the only thing in the way still that may interfere is the ps box, although doubtful. Since it’s been 25+ yrs since I’ve had the engine out of the car I’m just looking for a few pointers to make the motor mount swap. I guess I’ll disconnect the tranny from the mount, or mount from chassis, and jack the engine from the pan. Sound about right? Does it matter which side I r&r first? Thanks as always guys.

Don't bend the oil Pan like I did. There are differences in pan thickness. I replaced the bent pan with the thicker one.

Use a short piece of 2x8 or 10 to fit the bottom of the pan to spread the weight when jacking. Do one side at a time. No need to loosen the trans mount.

Disconnect battery ground cable.

I don’t think you need to undo the trans mount. Just change one at a time, you don’t have to lift the engine much

Thanks guys, it’s an MP Hemi capacity plan, 7qt. iirc, which I don’t want to crush into the pickup. I may try to jack from under the edge of the pan, or at least spread the load out with wood and a few rags. I’ll get a better idea when I get under there. Anyone know torque values on the motor mounts?

@Bird 426 agreed, that would be plan A for certain. I can’t imagine it’s going to need to move all that much?

Back in the day my 65 Newport 383. Loosened all the bolts. Had someone brake torque, the engine raised up, slip the mount out and the new one in. Easiest mount change ever.

Great suggestion, thanks Don. Plus it won’t take up nearly as much room as a floor jack right where I need to work.
