MOPAR Friends: My 1969 Charger came from the factory with the code R22 AM/8-Track radio (see photos). And yes, it's one of the few factory 8-track players that still work. Naturally, I wanted a diverse selection of music to play, so I've been collecting 8-track cartridges for many years. As of this morning, I have 358 of them, all of which work. I've found a way to disassemble and repair them when the tapes break (usually at the signal tape splice) or when the foam pressure pads crumble. I'm claiming to have the largest operable 8-track tape collection on the B body website. So the challenge has been issued! Can you top this? If so, you must provide photographic evidence as I have below. Even if you don't have a lot of tapes, feel free to weigh in with your 8-track stories from back in the day. All submissions are welcome. Now go down into the basement and count up those tapes - and remember: They have to actually work to count. Who will knock me off the top? Game on!

I had about a dozen, but got rid of them (divorce) because I got tired of fixing the splice.

Carry on. Blanks and copies should be next.

Well. I can't provide proof, but I HAD over 500 of the damn things. I still have a splicing kit, a demagnitizer for the head and splice tape. That along with those long Q-tips for cleaning the head and head cleaner. . After that I started buying cassettes and and had a hundred of more of them. Now it's CD's which over the last 25 years or so finally have all the titles I still love and more in a format that (hopefully) will last! I had vinyl before that and my younger brothers ruined most of those but I only had around 50 of them. The sad part besides the money invested was having to buy the same albums in several different formats. I think that many rock groups owe me money back for supporting their lavish life styles for so long! Now I copy the CD's to computer and download them to little Sandisk Clipsport for portability. You see, I had long commutes to work for many years; over 36 years driving over a hundred miles a day & needed music to help keep me awake. Got tired of commercials and crap. I tried to sell my 8 tracks but the cost of shipping exceeded their worth so into the dumpster they went! :(

I had a couple dozen I saved for four decades after I sold my first, and only GTX with an 8 track. Recently purchased my sixth GTX in 45 years, and lo and behold, it has a working 8 track! Dug through my old stuff for hours looking for them, wife threw them out! Well, at least she kept me.

Had a underdash hang on 8 Track in my '67 Olds 442 in 1967....I bought it new! I remember sitting at the Dairy Queen eating a BBQ and drinking a shake listening to The Mamas and Papas "California Dreamin". Ahhhh, those were the days. Sounded like crap by todays standards.

I did the same thing in the 60's with my 67 Satellite, those were the days for sure. Today my Hemi 4-speed GTX, dual mirrors & headrests, clock and rubber bumper guards. Radio delete and that solid lifter Hemi is music to my ears.

Very nice, I’ve got about 40 working 8 track tapes, I found and installed a under dash Craig power play tape deck. I also repair my own tapes. I’ve found they’re easy to find but almost always need the splice changed and a new foam pad. Occasionally the tape is messed up beyond my “care to fix” ability.

I remember as a kid getting into those 10 (or whatever it was) 8-tracks for a penny. Then you had to buy 4 ore at regular prices. Sold all mine at a thrift sale 30+ years ago.

Had a box containing a few 8 track and cassettes. Last year came across it with my 24 year old kid who asked "what do you do with these"

Not even close, I had 15+ tapes in my '70 Barracuda. Did well with the girl I dated when I was 19, petite blonde with a great figure. Those were the days.
In the early '90's I gave the tapes & a player to a lady I worked with. She & her hubby relived the days.
Many years later my son asked if had old records, sure I gave him the stuff from early '60's, Beach Boys, Jan & Dean, Bill Cosby, etc. He may have made some money off those.

Now that you mentioned it Brian, I remember my dad having all those gizmos, fixing those tapes, was a real pain in the ass the way I see it,
