Carburetor Paper Gaskets: Do I need to add some liquid gasket sealer?

Hi All,

I took off my Edelbrock carb to inspect gaskets cause i saw my 1/2" space looked wet with gas after driving it.

I got some new paper gaskets and was going to reassemble but I think adding some Permatex Gasket product of some type might help with sealing things.

What do you think?

There is no reason to put any kind of sealer on a carb base gasket, especially if you have a nice imprint of the carb bottom and intake flange in the gasket. The wet could be gas dribbling from the boosters and dripping out the throttle shafts after you shut the engine off. Check float level. For the Eddy AFB carbs the spec is 7/16" at the tip of the float.

i don't like putting any kind of a sealer under carbs. depending on the sealer, one the gas will eat it or eventually dry out and pc's into intake. if you are concerned about it put on 2 gaskets and tourq evenly.

NO sealer, however, it would not hurt a thing in the world to find a candle and rub candle wax on both sides of the gaskets. This will keep them from sticking and tearing in the future if you tear it back down for adjustments later. Chap Stik also works well.

i would check the spot you refered to with a strait edge on both intake and carb just to be sure there is no warpage.never run gasket sealant under your carb,good reasons are listed above.plus,you could end up with sealant in places you dont want it.sealing up air bleed holes and such for example.

Wow, I checked the 1/2" phenolic spacer against a glass table top and I can feel a slight wobble/warpage. The carb feels flat.

I will check the float level in the carb as well.
