How oil is labeled depends on when it was produced. Oil for sale produced and bottled before legislation becomes effective does not need to comply. Notice in post #10 he goes on to say he can't find it anymore.

Here's a very long but interesting article about motor oil. It includes the chemical breakdown on some popular oil. Since it's from 2013 the data may be out of date already.

Right or wrong I still try to use oil with 1500 or more ppm of zinc.

What is the zinc content?


I forgot the number as I will have to look but I know its alot as thats why I stayed with it and like I said I have never wiped a lobe and all I ever run is flat tappet cams. Ron
 
Just received two cases of Brad Penn 10W 40. Amazon $150 delivered = $6.25 qt. Engine builder recommended. Engines I own that have flat tappet cams: Gen II Hemi
318 SBM
350 SBC Crate 290HP

For my engines that have roller lifters I use Pennzoil or Royal Purple synthetic
 
Castrol 5-30 in the wife's PT Cruiser

Castrol 10-40 in my Dakota and all 3 of my Chargers from the 60's

Castrol 20-50 in my little 88 Shadow with over 226,000 miles on it...

no extra additives either

These cars you have listed do not have the same requirements a 69 Dodge or 68 AMX has.
In fact, running High Zinc oil will DESTROY a Catalytic Convertor
 
Valvoline straight 30W in my stock 383 4-speed North Carolina car. Never a problem.

I read this quite long - but extremely informative article you posted. Can't thank you enough for providing it. I thought it to be something we should all take note of. I took notes. The references provided were stellar and judging by them I can only think the conclusions are as well. I learned a tremendous amount about the selection of motor oil and intend to live by the guidelines provided.

I would encourage all of us to read in its entirety or at least skim this incredibly informative piece. Thanks again for the posting!
 
Valvoline VR1 racing oil. Valvoline oil is all I have ever used since 1974 and I have never wiped a cam lobe. Ron

......I too, enjoy the full-bodied flavor of VR1.
 
Don't mean to revive the dead here but I recently picked my car up from a shop after getting some seals replaced. The shop owner said he replaced my oil with this....

my concern is that because it is break- in oil will it cause my engine harm?
 
I doubt it will harm your engine - however I believe "break in" oil is only meant to be run for a short period of time. Usually would be used with breaking in a newly built motor and then changed shortly there after.
