I'm guessing diaphragm clutch? Centerforce? Limit the pedal travel....
Try depressing the clutch just enough so you can get the trans to shift into reverse, fabricate a stop to prevent pushing the pedal any further than that....
I've seen guys built threaded adjustable travel limiters & I've seen guys tape a block of wood to the bottom of the pedal.... Anything will work...
The more often you completely flatten the diaphragm the more you weaken it... He may wind up having to replace the clutch & if he does most guys get away from the diaphragm & go back to a three finger type clutch....
