Dipstick length?

My 69 RR 383 has an aftermarket dipstick, and for the life of me, cannot find (google) the correct length that it is supposed to be. The current one thats in it is 23" from the tip to the seat. Overall length is 26-1/8". The stick always reads way over the full mark. Would this also cause the rear seal to leak?

Change the oil, put in either 5 or 6 quarts (depending on oil pan), and see where it reads and remark as necessary.

Leave the filter on and dont crank it when doing this.
