So I just got my engine running following the rebuild. I broke the cam and engine in as directed by the rebuilder.
It was running great and then stalled suddenly and after that ran lousy. The idle was terrible. At times no matter were I turned the distributor it made no difference, other times it did as far as retarding and advancing.
I suspected a vacuum leak but it wasn't that.
I pulled out the brand new electronic distributor with the orange box from Mancini racing and put the old distributor I was using with Petronix ignitor.
It ran great. I called Mancini and he told me check the air gap and other than that send it back. He told me they sold lots of these units with no issues.
I dont know what to say, its definitely the distributor/or box.
Either way I feel better as at least I solved the problem

 :drinks: CONGRATULATIONS :moparsmiley: :)
So glad that you got the engine back and fired up.
I have been happy with my FBO ignition system. It uses the stock wiring harness but has a proprietary control box by FBO, and the electronic distributor is similar to the Chrysler one, but set up by Don at FBO according to your engine build.
In the future, I am going to look for more features and capabilities from another ignition system, and I am also VERY happy with the Pertronix billet aluminum distributor and Ignitor III Module that we installed in the GTO.
Again, congrats SFSI!

I've seen a number of guys running the orange box that have had issues. Mostly didn't seem to work well above 5000 rpm. "Back in the Day" I ran the blue box, worked perfect & went to 7200 rpm with ease. My MSD 404BC (before Christ, I think) also worked great, past 8400 rpm with the mag trigger Hemi iron tach drive distributor which I still run. Check the gap with the brass feeler gauge. Maybe ask for the chrome box.

Do you have a good fuel filter on it?

That seems to point to the ignition system. I understand that your suggestion to check the fuel filter may be good advice, but I think the culprit has been identified.
