Do You Have Ugly Handwriting (might be a good omen)?

We got a notice from her teacher informing us of this horrible action, tried to reprimand her and wanted us to make her stop.
I would take the note to the school board & get that stupid teacher fired! It sounds like she must not have been taught cursive herself & was having trouble. We have lowered the learning bar so low with the thumb wars generations that right around the corner they won't even be toilet trained until they start college!
:mob:

My wife was a teacher and her daughter was taught to read at a very early age. As a result, she skipped 4 grades and started college at the age of 13. She speaks 5 languages: Spanish, French, Chinese, Norwegion & Icelandic?? She taught English to kids in Taiwan for 4 years and now lives in England.
A very sad state of affairs with education in this country. It will be our downfall!

I was never good at cursive.

When I discovered block style in drafting class, I started writing everything in that style.

It has evolved over the decades into a more elongated, leaning and stylized form, but it's what I do.

A previous job required me to make name tags using a pantograph.

I figured out that I could simply trace letters instead of using the provided tiles and made my own tag using my own modified block handwriting.

Or a 6'6" 350lb mechanic that specializes in Triumph motor cars.

My experience between welders and mechanics is that the latter can't hold a candle when it comes to profanity and being just flat out gross. Welders can put truck drivers, sailors, mechanics, anyone else you care to name to shame!

What party do you think she belongs to? I've sent letters to the school board here telling them that it is obscene that people who belong to a party that makes money killing unborn children are in charge of children!

Soooo.....where's the 'study' that shows what you are if you never use cursive?

The only time I use cursive is when I sign my name.

I haven't used cursive in at least 35 yrs. It never flowed with me, it always felt like I was trying to write with my non-dominant hand.

That's about how I feel/felt. My parents on the other hand, had attractive cursive (Mom was left-handed but forced in school to write right-handed).

My folks writing was pretty and legible...something I never acquired; but my printing was good maybe via drafting classes and trying to imitate my dad's nifty printing. When I started working for a machine shop in HS, my boss had me print the mailing addresses on boxes of the parts we shipped when he didn't have time to do it. Back when, no computers or printers. Ironic as our shop made the slide rails and lens housing for microfiche machines for a company called Micro Design, all the thing then for eliminating paper files! And recall when we got our first digital read-outs on the Bridgeport's, the size of a shoe box and learning how to use it after machining the old fashioned way. Primitive as that is now.

Blows me away when I reflect on how much has changed being my age...finding pay phones, getting issued a laptop doing away with our secretaries to type out reports, using a paper road map, our 1st color TV...and when my GTO and Cuda was my daily transportation...

Lol teachers used to just blindly grade my papers rather then try to read them

An overhead welder :D

Wear a flame retardant balaclava, wrap around cap, or welding hoodie to cover head neck and shoulders from spatter and UV.
UV burns, usually on my neck, suck too.

I don't know about the hand writing thing? My writing is so bad I can't even read it :)

I have such terrible chicken scratch I should have been a doctor…. I mean if I wasn’t so stupid haha!

Beautiful writing kid

Just a clip from the interweb.

Thought it might bring back memories of when we were taught how to write with these characters. I always made it a point to master cursive as much as I could. It's an art in a lot of forms and everyone has their own personal signature. They have been using a person's hand writing for identification for ever and it's what makes us individual in our own way. To think some want to take that away from us is sinister.
