Do you still use old apparatus?

I am one of the older guys on the construction site. As such, I am one of the few that still has a corded circular saw. I don't use a hand saw or a "brace and bit" though.
I still have points ignition in this car:

I do still have DVD players and a VCR in the house.

I do still have a Playstation 2
I have a Akai Tv that has a VCR & a DVD/CD player built in too
I also have 2 Aiwa 19" color TVs from my old Golf Pro-shop
that has a VCR built-in, 1 of them in my office, rarely even turn it on
from back in the early (80's ?) 90's IIRC

I do have a stand-alone Emerson '4 head' VCR, from like 1979
& a 5-disc Sony CD player & a vintage Sony VCR
don't know why I still have them

I have an HP office jet copier/printer scanner fax phone
from like 1995, still works perfectly
(god forbid I need cartridges, cha ching)

I use the TV in my bedroom all the time,
amazing it still works as well as it does, has great color/great picture
(for foreign ****) rarely use the VCR or DVD player
But;
Sometimes when the power/cable goes out
I'll watch a movie, I still have quite the collection of VHS/DVR ****
I've gotten as presents

I still use a 8" Skilsaw Wormdrive (beam cut 3-1/2" thick in one pass) saw too,
from like 1980, with a 100' cord on it (OSHA would love that one)
I don't really like the cordless saws for framing
most people had/used 7-1/4" Skilsaws (I have them too),
8" is slightly bigger, sort of a lil' heavy MF-er

I have quite a collection of
'old Makita' 7.2 vt, 9 vt, 12vt cordless tools
from like 1990-ish, all still work just fine
I need to buy a few new batteries,
I have;
flashlight/s, saber saw, small 3" circular saw, brad gun, Stapler,
chuck-less 3/8" right-angle drill & several std chuck-less 3/8" drills
in all the voltages (even current ones)
small reciprocating/saws-all, the carry cases, all the appr. chargers
& a big Makita Tool Box to haul them

I had multiples of most of them at one time
they came in handy doing work/quick lil' jobs in the dealerships
& not stringing out cords/trip hazards
when they were operating while open

a ton of construction tools & a roll around scaffolding 40+ y/o

hell most my toolbox & Mac Matco Snap-on Craftsman Thorson
& Huskie etc. tools
are 45-50 years old
I still have a Dwell meter other automotive electronics/tools
(haven't used since like 1997)
have a few timing lights 25-30-40+ years old, several brands

I have other wood-working tools/hand tools,
augers, planes, saws, chisels, drills, lathe tools etc.
I got from my great-uncle & Granddad
some that are older than my dad (85) is

I have a few really old golf clubs
I have my Granddad's org. set of clubs from 1940's

I have an Evinrude Sportswin 5hp (IIRC ?) outboard motor
from the later 30's or 40's
don't know if it even runs, I think it did when Granddad put it up
back in the later 70s

a lot of the stuff I can't bring myself to get rid of,
give away, sell or throw away

a bunch of old advert. tin signs 'for beer or booze'
out in the shed
I got from a buddy that worked for Southern Wine & Spirits
when I still live in Concord
We (like 8 of US from several different dealerships) always had a party
on Mondays for MNF, at my place (their wives didn't allow it, at theirs)
whether there was a football game or not, we still had a MNF party...

Mike my buddy would bring the stuff over,
after he'd do a special somewhere, have a "Theme night" sort of
all types of stuff plates napkins signs sunglasses shot glasses
that was possible "future" collector's stuff

I did thin that **** out 'some'
I did also give all my old Neon signage to my nephew
I had a crapload of cool Neon signage at one time
you could watch the electric meter 'spin like a skill-saw'
when I'd turn them all on

I still use a slide rule and Starrett mic's from the 1920's regularly... I also use old ammeters and DC ammeters from the old Weston days in their maple cases. Still nothing better to this day .

Be honest now....how many times have you run the saw blade through the cord in your time as a chippie?
I know I have repaired quite a few for guys in the past.

I have my 23 year-old lawnmower, and it still runs great. Two-stroke engine, single cylinder, goes full noise or not at all.....starts within the first 3 pulls.

I just purchased an old Sanyo VCR this week online to copy some of my vast collection of tapes before they rot away. Picking it up during the week. I have 3 VCR's that won't even play now....just plain worn out from age & usage.

And when it comes to old.....I have clothes that have come back into fashion, and gone out again.

Yep, I can vogue for that, I've seen a few of them too...

No VCR anymore but still have a CD changer and an old Kenwood KR5150 receiver in the shop with a pair of Fisher speakers that were free. Still sound good too. Heck, my newest vehicle is a 97 2500 diesel! My in house entertainment is supplied by Directed Dumb TV with a DVR hooked to a 'smartass' TV that I can't figure out how to make it connect to the internet! Damn crap.....

I have cut the cord on these Skilsaws many times.
2 stroke lawnmower? I have never seen one of those!

Man, I started using a 'Skilsaw' everyday when I was 17 and continued until before and after the military until I was about 23 and never cut a cord. And hated the 2 stroke lawnmowers lol. Never had one and never wanted one! Imo, they were junk for mowing the Texas St. Augustine grass we have here.

I still have a road atlas and race a stick car.
McNally's
Me too :poke:
I hate cell phones & don't use NAV **** either
never had a problem getting anywhere

automatic or stick, racing or not

As a so called "mature man" on the FBBO site, I can say my old apparatus works just fine. I don't get to use it as much as I did when I first discovered all it's features, but I've never had to upgrade.

:rofl::rofl::rofl:

M A P S !
Yes....I still prefer maps to anything electronic.

In order to repair this wagon wheel many moons ago I used a Draw Knife to make (7) copies of the rotten spokes. It was buried in the ground for many more moons as lawn art. We were known as the Wheel House by neighborhood kids.

Above is an eckbay photo of what my draw knife looks like.

Once again the wagon wheel needs help and this time it was just dropped at a crusty old friend’s, workmate and custom wood smith hobbyist shop.
He, at 84, said he was excited to try his hand at being a Wheelsmith. He already told me that originally the outer steel ring was heated to a red hot conditioned and lowered over the outer wood ring so the metal ring would shrink onto the wood. It was cooled with water then.

This does need a lot of repair by it’s a special Wagon Wheel that was a landmark for a Chicago Restaurant called The Spoke and Yoke. The restaurant was well known for serving tasty food & drink to Chicago Politicians, Power Brokers, Cops, Robbers and Friendly Ladies. In other words, the neighborhood type. The business moved to the South Suburbs in the ‘60’s.

Oh and there’s a working 45rpm jukebox in my garage that’s from the ‘60’s. This is one title…..
