Drag slicks

I have the Caltrac mono-leaf. 9 way shock in the rear set on #5. 318 torsion bars. 9/10’s. Mild 440 3000 stall. 3.73’s with Detroit Locker. 3400 empty. 275/60/15 Cooper Cobra’s. As long as I don’t open the secondaries in the first 10 or 15 feet it hooks pretty well. If it starts to spin it will boil the tires all the way to the 2/3 shift. I will need some DR’s to race. I’m guessing a 2.10 or worse 60 time right now if the track is prepared. Shady side showed himself cooking a large batch of goo. Brakes are fixed so I guess it’s time to run it.

I run just SS springs with a snuber on 30×10.5 Hoosier bias slicks in an A-body 3000lb car. Hooks just fine at about 650 rear HP 10 sec car. 4000 stall reverse valve 727. 4.56:1 spooled Mosier axeled 8 3/4.

An A-body Duster is a different setup and geometry of a B-body. Thus really not comparing apples to apples. A drag radial will certainly last longer. I know many still like the M/T drag radial. They make a 26" by 10." Shortest tire for a 3.23:1 gearset on a 15" rim. Which I believe should work well with your setup to get you into your powerband just alittle quicker than a taller tire.

I wish more drag radials were offered in a 27" tall size like 255/60/15. I see that MT ET Street SS are, but also want decent street manners and have seen mixed reviews. I'm currently running 275/60/15 Nitto 555R's on 8" rims and 3.55 gears with mild cam and motor.

do you have calvert's leaf spring sliders ? your car looks just like the one in their catalog ...

i ask b/c i'm currently installing full calvert set up. mono split springs / sliders / caltrac and their shocks. wondering if you love it ?

Got my paper copy. Thanks for bringing this up! Totally geeked out.

9 way adjustable Caltrac shocks on the back Caltrack 90/10 front. 600hp motor. 9” rear with 3:20 gears and 3K stall
Never on the dyno. We went 1.29 60ft on Wednesday night with 477" at 3480lbs. 10.5x29.5 M/T radials with a 4.10. It has way more converter, better shocks, and Caltrac mono leaf. However we did run it previously with a turbo motor, Calvert shocks, 2.76 and 3.23 gears. Hooked fine back then on M/T 275/60 radials. Car started at 10.98 with the 2.76 and went as quick as 9.95 w/3.23. That was before the Menscer shocks, more gear, and more power.

Interesting. All the reviews I’ve seen, including mine, have been very consistent.
Here's one thread with multiple people talking about side to side movement, sometimes at just over 60mph. The fix seems to be to lower the tire pressure down to 18psi, which is not ideal for the street. I run my Nitto 555R's at 28psi on the street and drop them to 12-18psi the few times I've had the car down the track. I now realize that the Nitto 555R DR's are not really comparable to the MT ET SS DR's or other DR's due to the Nittos generally having a stiffer side wall.

I really like the Hoosier DBR's. They are forgiving of track prep and Vegas, Phoenix, and Tucson vary wildly in their prep. I changed from drag radials, MT ET SS, to the Hoosiers and improved to 1.68 60 ft's on 11.90's runs from 1.75 60 ft's on 12.00's runs with no other changes. Still playing with the psi sweet spot, currently at 15psi

I just tried the Hoosier 28x10.5 with the CO7 compound. Probably one of the best tires I've ever used. Stiffer sidewall. Huge improvement over my M/T Drag Radials. I lost a 0.1 et using the slicks, but it drives easier. Not nearly as sketchy on our local track that has a very poor surface.

What size tire are you running, and what trap speed?
