Dreaded shift shaft seal in car tips

I bought the tool that screws into the seal. Didn't work anyone have any tips or tricks? Transmission is in the car.

Drop the valve body and knock out the seal from the bottom.

Take pictures of the valve body:
-installed before removal
-detail of selector gear positions and other arms
-just after you remove it and lay it down

buff out any wear marks in both shaft where they ride each seal.

Super easy to do... just makes a mess. It makes the shaft seal much easier to install, plus it gives you a chance to clean out any friction material from the bottom of the pan.

I was 100% intimidated too.

But it was ok as long as you are are deliberate and cautious. There is a ball with a spring that goes against the detent. That can pop out. It's all about putting it back like it came out. There's like 6-8 small screw/bolts and it drops out. Much simpler than I thought/imagined.

Drop the valve body . Get a long bolt, a nut and two washers. Position seal. place washer on top. Put bolt through washer and seal. Put other washer on the bottom against trans. Install nut. Tighten bolt and nut , drawing the seal into the case.

10- 1/4" cap screw. Get a LARGE pan to collect the fluid and plan on letting it drip for a long time or wear goggles and a swim cap.

I put aluminum foil down over a large flat pan to get a fresh clean surface. After I took the drain pan away. Then and remaining trans fluid on the foil, I could roll up in the trash.
