Electric fan rad probe

I'd like to move my fan temp sensor from the water pump so I can intall a mechanical temp gauge. I'm thinking a temp probe in the rad fins might work. Any comments?

Most water pump housing I've had have 2 ports that can be used. Look for a pipe plug near the heater hoses. Mine came out quite easily.

Yes,my electric fan temp sensor is in there. I jusy want to use it for my temp gauge

I added (brazed) a bung to the radiator just above the fins so the probe is in the water. Reason was that the radiator temperature should trigger the e-fan, not the WP housing temperature (before vs. after thermostat).
Temperature gauge is hooked up to the WP housing though.

In my Apache I had a bung welded onto the inlet side of the cross flow radiator near the top hose. You could also use an in-line adapter in the upper radiator hose. There should be an unused port in the water pump housing if you can get the plug out.

I don’t think a probe in the fins is accurate enough for reliable fan operation.

I thought I'd try it are here is what I observe.
The probe is in the lower part of the rad by the outket port. When I first start driving temp goes to 200 then back below 180 then back up to 190 and pretty much stays there.
It was 30 degrees here the other day and I idled for sbout 10 minutes and the temp climbed to 210 and stayed there til I drove then back to 190
