    1. Since replacing our floor these things have been driving me mad looking at them seeings how they mate with the floor. I need honest opinions.... is it to much? Our floor is multi color but I think I went a bit further with the extremes Lol? I really like it but will restain at least the one long black section on the bottom... a bit to much Ebony. I repaired some cracks (sawed and glued them back together), plained them, routed grooves to make them appear to be separate boards then sanded and stained them. Plans are to build huge drawers into the faces:thumbsup:. 20171107_191120.jpg 20180408_214535.jpg 20180415_081753.jpg

I like it, only thing I would have tried is carry the orientation from the floor to the stairs, and maybe make the same color board extend across multiple steps, but who knows, maybe it would have looked funny. Either way, pretty nice!

Match the colors used on the floor is what I meant. The floor doesn't have any Ebony or Golden Oak which is where I went extreme but I guess they aren't part of the floor and only have to go well with it.

I'm not sure I would have liked a bunch of short boards plus I wanted the boards to go with the grain? Would have looked good that way I'm sure.

This does bring me to the next decision though. The rounded portions that I need to tackle next run at roughly a 45 degree angle except the top one:realcrazy:. I'd like the board look to continue onto these but will mean the grain will be all out of whack! Still think it would look better that having boards at an angle?

I vote for continuing out straight and cutting pie slices as you go around the bends, to keep it straight.

One of my younger brothers is a hardwood contractor in Columbia SC. He does high end custom floors with exotic woods and patterns etc. Been in business there since 1998. I was doing hardwood as well as ceramic tile but gave over the wood part to him when he moved there from PA. It IS hard on the back and knees.

I really like that, did you buy seconds? I don't mean that in a bad way it's just they typically sort out all the knotty crazy looking wood and sell it as seconds but I actually like it a lot better myself. Lot's of character.

Very different. Different is good and not boring (why does anything have to match anything?). The stairs are well defined by the darker colors. My vote would be to leave it. Really beautiful work. Particularly like the arched wall opening. You definitely are a talented woodworker...

I like it and would not change a thing.
Now with that said, I have one question. Who in the house had the stones to use the hoverboard up or down the stairs?:D
