Fan belt tension best practices. All models and years.

.....so how much tension fan belts and or accessory belts? Both A/C and non-A/C. Never really lost one before and did last Friday. Just curious.

I shoot for about 1/4" - 3/8" deflection at the longest span and have never lost a belt.
I also make sure, using a straightedge, that the pulleys are in alignment.
