For those of you who require more octane than can be found at the pump, are there any products that you've tried and found that it worked as advertised? I can easily get ethanol free gas where I'm located but it's mostly 89 octane.
Agreed, I have access to bulk 112 so I buy (3) 5 gallon cans and cut a couple of gallons of it into a tank of 93 pump gas. 3 cans is usually enough to last me through the 3 seasons since I don't drive it every day. As far as I know, none of the so called octane boosters over the counter are worth buyingFind a source for VP Racing Fuel locally, buy a few 5gal cans, and "cocktail" it in. I'm lucky I guess, as they sell it at the local gas station, down at the corner...
Marine Sta-Bil is great for storage use, to be added to gasoline to prevent condensation from forming and absorbing if it forms, but if you read the label, one of the components may be METHANOL, which is a derritive of alcohol. Chemically, Ethanol is: C2H5OH and METHANOL is: CH3OH. There may be Isopropyl alcohol (C3H7OH) added as well. There are other rust inhibitors added to prevent corrosion. Methanol in high concentrations is reported to cause degradation of certain rubber and elastomeric compounds, like fuel pump diaphragms and certain carb parts. The exact formulation is proprietary. By adding Sta-Bil you're adding a small percentage of alcohol. Perhaps you can use one of the Sunoco fuels noted....strictly for "off road" use only...of course.Best bets IMO and from experience is blending pump premium no ethanol with Sonoco Turbp Blue (or whatever race fuel) or pump premium no ethanol with AVgas. There have been a few times over the years where cruising and racing have been part of the same out of town trip, so if I have to use 90/10 premium, instead of adding Marine Sta-Bil 360 to fight the negative effects of corn piss, I use a Royal Purple product that handles the ethanol AND provides a number or 2 bump in octane.
Most all of the time around home and our local drag strip, 93 octane no ethanol 100% dino juice gasoline is all it takes.
When we first got the GTO, I bought a 55 gallon drum of Sonoco Turbo Blue race fuel. 109 octane, lead additive, for off road use only,....of course...Perhaps you can use one of the Sunoco fuels noted....strictly for "off road" use only...of course.
Thanks for the info.... but for my money, I want to know what I'm putting in the tank. The products noted state their ingredients that increase the octane level...but do not say how or by what means thus is achieved. I'm wary of boosters with benzene or other oxygenates like MTBE (Methyl Tertiary-Butyl Ether ), although they raise the octane levels in the fuels that they are blended with, the octane level increase directly proportional to the amount added. The other compounds noted are not really called out or in what concentration.Look up Boostane
That is one of only about 3 serious octane boosters that I was considering, but I still have some 109 Sonoco Turbo Blue left, and I don't really need more octane than the readily available....Anybody know anything about this stuff? It's advertised as having real lead (59.4 grams per gallon.) I would think it illegal to sell but if you look around the web, it's available from several places and reviews indicate that it works and does have TEL.
Curious if anybody has used it, TEL is nasty stuff but if handled properly could be cheaper and an alternative to mixing race fuel into the tank. Chime in!

Yeah, the only non ethanol gas available near me is low octane 87 and it's a buck more a gallon than the corn juice stuff so not a viable option for me. 100LL avgas is available but when I compare the cost, I can do better with 112 and use less per tank. Still curious if anybody on here has used the Kemco stuff and can give me a reviewThat is one of only about 3 serious octane boosters that I was considering, but I still have some 109 Sonoco Turbo Blue left, and I don't really need more octane than the readily available....
93 octane 100% gasoline premium
grade fuel only 5 minutes away!
There's the local airport, where I can fill up a portable fuel container with 100 AVgas.
BWA-HA-HAAAAA
Torco is another I looked closely at and seems to be outstanding.
IMO/YRMV
Doesn't say what's in it.I've heard good things about this stuff.
