What is the silver stuff inside on the walls between the studs ? how thick is it ? what's it called ?
Finally time to pull the trigger . . . starting on the New (much anticipated) SHOP - Build

I'm having my attic blown in by a friend's company. I'm not walking those beams in the dark carrying that huge hose. It's not pitch black, but low enough light to add to the danger.

The silver stuff in the bays is called Radiant Barrier - it was purchased for Lowe's. It consists of (2) layers of Mylar with a thin
bubble wrap between them - it really does a great job of reducing the amount of heat that can pass through it - have it completely
covering the bottom of all the studs in my attic and the attic will hardly get above 100 degrees ( yes - I've got exhaust fans too )
even on the hottest days down here in North Carolina. My HVAC guy was vising and we went up in the attic - to demo the stuff -
and he was AMAZED at how well it actually worked . . .

Need some inspiration, Larry!
Thought the insulation would be done this year - not quite - Final insulation to be installed 1/2/2026 . . .
Spray foam installation of that last part of my shop is now scheduled for January 2nd
( based on no rain - cannot roll my Belvedere out in the rain . . . )
The installation of the spray foam has started and 3/4 of the shop is now done . . .
The upper floor of the shop - and the spray foam was being installed . . .
The silo when they got it all installed . . .
The East bay of the shop is now completed . . .
This is the west bay - it was not done because it was full of "stuff" and they had no way to access the ceiling and
walls - so my job now is to get this area cleared out so they can have access . . .
My pallet jack seals were leaking - so the pump was rebuilt and new seals and
Appears to be working better now
Added (3) spot lights on the side of the shop to light my backyard - ( only 2 are shown in this picture )
These light are doing a fantastic job and light up the backyard very nicely . . .
Time to start working on installing the ship lap in the silo - not too sure how this is going to go . . .
progress on the installation of the ship lap . . . getting the hang of this . . . slowly . . . gonna take a while . . .
Starting to wrap onto the next wall . . . this is really going to be interesting . . .
Had a couple weeks in Florida to help out my daughter when she had surgery to allow her to get some rest and
assist her with the kids - OH DARN - had to spend 2 weeks in Florida spending time with granddaughters.
My only concern, is that my walls were supposed to be foamed to 6" . . . but I'm seeing many places in the shop
that are only done to 4" . . . and a few are only 3" . . . so I'm hoping that they will be "corrected". Pretty sure it
was a communication concern - and I'm sure that they will get this corrected.
Excited and anxious to get to the rest of this build - and the next big project - sheetrock.

Love this thread - gotta admire a guy that has literally done the whole project himself.
I hope you save some energy to work on the Belvedere when the shop is completed Larry.

Don’t know what temperatures you are worried about, heat or cold. Our houses were built with 2x4 studs, R23 insulation.This was a mandatory requirement.
I don’t think your temperatures get down to -30f very often. If it was myself I wouldn’t worry about those areas of less insulation. Maybe you have a contract.
Our garage, very small compared to yours has 2x6 insulated walls and over R40 in the ceiling.
I do envy yours, Congratulations
