I'm heading out to Island dragway today for a test n tune.
First time out since the weight loss.
Hopefully, It'll just hook and go and run a good number.
I'll post some results later.

Rained out this weekend here in the Pacific Northwest. Living vicariously through you, Bob.... Don’t let us down.

So, I learned some stuff today.

So,
I did the testing part but didn't capitalize on the tuning part.
First pass after all the changes I was only going to do an 1/8 mile pass just to see...
Quickly called an audible and decided to run the full quarter, but didn't.
Following so far???
I felt like the car was shaking so I dumped early.
Good news was I had a good 60ft.time so my worries about the car not hooking with the weight loss were gone.
1.32
I ran a 9.89 at only 123 mph.
After looking over the car and thinking a bit, I came to the conclusion that a very rigidly mounted aluminum seat as compared to my stock cushy seat was what I was feeling.
I found a couple of " weak links" with the lexan install.
I need longer screws in the bottom of the windshield where I couldn't reach to put bolts in.
Side window outside gaskets didn't work out, so I'll push the bottom of the windows out from the inside of the car before next outing.
Next pass I left jetting alone which I knew better.
60 ft. Was again 1.32.
The vibration was the same but I rode it out.
Pretty sure it's the seat.
Nothing changed mechanically over the winter.
Every thing was tight.
The car ran a 9.77 at only 133.
It stumbled at half track to the finish.
It was jetted way fat.
Last time out the D.A. was about 150 and was jetted for that.
D.A. was around 1300 today . I was off about 6 mph.
So, I have encouraging results with my traction and et with the weight loss.
Last year with similar conditions at the same track, turned properly, my best was 9.85.
This year was 9.77 without tuning.
I'm optimistic for the fall race at Atco where I ran a 67 that I'll get into the 9.40's.

good news Bob

nice run for no tuning too, congrats
a lot more in it too

Bare with me, I know it may sound dumb, but;
check, make sure you cover all basis,
I'm maybe overly **** too :poke:
I want you to go fast as hell, have fun & be safe too

New combos can make you hyper sensitive to changes too
check stuff
a wheel (especially a rear) didn't throw a weight (balance) or something !!!
or a bad bearing (suspension wheel, front or rear end) or something
did you have the driveshaft out ever recently ?
universals bad
or something in the brakes ?
wheel or axle bearings
did you mess with the rear suspension at all ?
pinion angles
did you mess with the front suspension at all ?
alignment, toe in or out
or laying back the spindle caster/angles (will vibrate sometimes on deceleration)
or more so forward angle on the spindles not enough caster angle etc.
a bad heim joints etc.

Tire-shake ?, rolling over the tires/slicks wrinkles under power
or tire coming off the ground & it's distorting, bite & slip etc.
I'm not sure you're at that level of power yet

even with a solid seat, you can feel more of the car & track
but it doesn't seem like, a shake/severe vibration,
you shouldn't feel, unless something wrong
unless maybe/probably :realcrazy:
I'm not getting the proper translation of what you mean/said ?

I've had solid suspension cars & alum seat F/C & a couple Altered's
& didn't feel any shake/severe vibrations, unless something was really wrong
or maybe I was just use to it, but I think I would have noticed thou...

not trying to scare you
just covering all aspects, want you to be safe

I hope I'm wrong
or just misunderstand what you're saying about shaking/vibrations

good luck

After the first pass, I checked everything again and seemed fine.
I did nothing mechanically to the car over the winter which is why I'm thinking the seat.
It wasn't rattling or shaking violently, just a bit more vibration than normal.

Like I said I'm a bit 'overly ****' at times

you went to coil overs IIRC
wasn't that last season, you did all the Gerst chassis/suspension ?
lightening her up, while waiting for your engine builder to finish (?)
I don't remember the timeline,
anyway, the solid seat mounting, could be all it is...

maybe it's just the harsh ride you're feeling ?, not use to it
better to be safe than sorry

good to hear, you are on-top of all of it
like, I assumed you would be too

good luck next time out

So I found what not to do to secure your lexan windshield.
After going to the track the other day I found some of the bottom screws loosened on my windshield.
I drilled the holes on the bottom a bit too large. Stupid mistake.
They were snug but the vibration loosened them up.
So, I decided to put some loctite on them .
A couple days later, went out to the garage and found this.
Lesson learned.
I bought another sheet of Lexan and made another windshield.
This time I offset the bottom holes and drilled them smaller.
I feel 100% better with this one.

Nope, this is 3 years already that I have the Gerst setup in the car.
Time flies!!!

Can you get a nylock nut on the back side too
if you have access
so it doesn't have to be so tight
& won't have the bolts/screws backing off either

just curious

I have nylock nuts on top and on the sides, I just can't access underneath so I had to use screws.
Nothing is real tight. If you look from the side, there are no waves where its bolted.
I oversized the holes a bit in the lexan and used a countersink bit to have them sit flush.
