Gear Vendors on a A833

I don't think I would waste the money on one. The O/D reduction isn't really worth it. I would go with the Silver Sport 5speed.

Don’t want to do any tunnel modifications or lose the hurst shifter. And aren’t the Tremec like $6000? Talk about wasting money.

I like overdrives for highway cruising to keep up with traffic today. That being said I truly don’t believe anyone will save enough money in gas mileage to get a return on their investment without running many many more miles than most of us run our classics. You have to just value the overdrive whatever one you choose as any other thing you put into your favorite classic and just do it because you can and want it.

Did it for lower rpms, so we could drive it all over on long trips.
Now we take it everywhere, times when we would have left it home, or wanted to but also wanted to have a conversation on the way.

If it saves fuel, a win we'll gladly take, but with a dual quad tunnel ram, I've never calculated gas mileage, nothing to compare it to.

I know I spent $428.06 on fuel for a 2,500 mile trip, filled the tank before we left, and pulled in the garage on fumes.

I didn’t have to massage my tunnel much on my 69 rr for the GV overdrive. I only use it after drive, not between gears. I’ve got 3.54 gears, and the GV drops the rpm’s quite a bit. I mounted the switch on my shifter, so it’s very convenient. It shifts very hard. If you’re not under load and shift it on or off, it’s very harsh.

Any chance you have any photos of the tunnel massaging you did for the GV? I have been mostly happy with the Passon OD trans but have been missing have 4 regular gears around town and have been keeping an eye out for a regular hemi transmission.

Also, have you ever driven a manual trans with the GV? I recall someone saying engagement is a bit more harsh than with an auto.
Sorry - my father passed away and I have been busy with various details.
Here is a link, but it doesn't show the clearancing very well. The main culprits are the 4 big bolts that bolt the gear vendors unit together. The top two hit my transmission tunnel pretty hard.
The first "Hawk-Rod" resurrection, Roadkill style

Here is a reference picture of the unit out of the car (P.S. this went into my 73 sitting above the 70)

Engagement is plenty harsh WITH an auto.
I agree it is very firm and sudden. In some cases, it does feel harsh, but in other cases not. It depends on the engine load and speed. Overall, for the 11,000 miles we drove mine across country, it didn't bother us at all.

I have never bought an overdrive to recoup money. I buy and install them to enjoy the car more when driving at today's highway speeds.
