I've got the a833 in my 69 Charger. I fully rebuilt the unit about three or four thousand miles ago. Lately I've noticed some grinding into second. Seems to get better as the trans warms up. Last season it shifted great, no grinding what so ever. When cold it's also generally difficult to get into first and second. Is this a symptom of the wrong fluid? From what I recall, I used Pennzoil synco fluid. Can't remember the weight. The syncos in the trans can't have gone South already. Clutch still feels good too. Suggestions?

It sounds like it could be the clutch. If it is hard or grinds into reverse - clutch for sure as reverse has no syncromesh ring.
It is hard to know from here but it could be first/second syncro problem but you need to rule out the clutch.

Bronze pilot bushing or a roller bearing in the crank?

Is your clutch fully disengaging?

Can you power shift 1st to 2nd cleanly and 2nd to 1st just using throttle and no clutch?

I don't get any grinding into reverse. It's a new clutch, stock one, maybe it's due for some adjustment?

Bronze bushing. I'm pretty sure the clutch is fully disengaging, no signs that it's not. I haven't tried shifting without the clutch, I'll try that tomorrow.

If the car goes in to reverse normally your clutch is probably OK. Reverse will show up any issues with the clutch
Points to gearbox problem.
