hey guys quick question so the gtx started running like crap and i thought it was my six pack so as i started looking closer i realized that the number 6 spark plug tip was smashed shut so i took off the valve cover and noticed the spring was closed and all the other ones were up right. so is it a bent valve or collapsed spring

Having a smashed plug means you have a piece of foreign material in that cylinder(broken off valve).

Not all the springs will be at equal heights because some valves are open and some are closed. Is it possible you have something in the valve seat area holding the valve open? Sure. And as mentioned that something might have closed the tip on the plug.

so my best bet is to remove the head?

You could use a "bore scope" to look inside the plug hole. Sometimes you might see in the hole with just a small mag light and see damage. But looks like you might be pulling the head.
