Hemi fitment issues.

Hello all,
I have a 69 SBee that was a 383 car and now sports a Ray Barton Hemi. I believe it has Schumacher engine mounts to adapt the Hemi. There is less than 1/4 inch clearance on the passenger side between the valve cover and the inner fender well. Is it normally this friggin close? I have the engine out of the car for some work so I figured I would address any issues I have now. Thanks in advance Scott
 
I, can say that the engine compartment on all 66-70 B bodies are the same size. Also my 67 Hemi cars only have a inch or less clearance on the passenger side. There isn't much room in there with a Hemi.
 
Make sure it’s level side to side if the left side is high or the right side is low it will cause your exact problem
 
With any thing other than a stock valve cover that right shock tower becomes very tight.You will most likely need to drop the shock out to remove covers for the valve adjustment.

Hell I would be happy with an inch. Mine is maybe 1/4 but more like 3/16 with Barton valve covers. May just mill the cover a tad while it is out.
 
On my 1965 with a Hemi K member I have to unbolt the passenger motor mount and jack up the motor to remove the valve cover
 
Whelp got my answer…it is just that way. Nothing to fix or change or adjust. Will just maybe mill the cover a tad. One less thing to worry about.
 
Fwiw I cut/sectioned my schumacher mounts to drop the engine lower.

Steering linkage nearly touches the oil pan at lock now.
 
70 Charger 318 car with Mopar performance hemi, same motor mounts, all stock. There is 1" clearance in there. You're probably right, its just a bigger valve cover

Yup: I tried to run studs on the valve covers on one car and it made it so you couldn't get the valve cover off, had to replace them with bolts.
