What years were the HP 440 blocks cast? I thought they were pretty limited in production.
You think these post '70's were build as HP? I am thinking they were old stock that was used after being modified to follow the emission regulations.I think 1972 but have heard as late as 74 but can't prove it
A cast crank wouldn’t have been factory. They didn’t show up until middle of 1973.I've got a '72 HP 440 "H". It has 6 pack rods and cast crank. I think it came out of a 'Cuda.
I think it was a replacement crank, it could have been the "cheaper" way to go at the time for the previous owner. It was 35 years ago when I got it. Its still the same. The block is "HP" for sure. and the rods look super strong, it just has to be externally balanced. ( I would sell this complete motor)A cast crank wouldn’t have been factory.
