I agree with Jay about Ethanol

Likewise. He nailed it.

"I am now replacing fuel-pressure regulators every 12 to 18 months."

"it eats through either the fuel-pump diaphragm, old rubber fuel lines or a pot metal part"

Whatever. If this B.S. was true the Holley would have "melted" off my car 20 years ago. Guess what it hasn't happened.

A barrel of oil is $44. A gal of E85 is $1.80 here. It's not ethanol driving the price of gas up.

Wow, I have heard of issues with small engines, but hadn't thought about the older vehicles. Both articles are must reads. TIme to start writing our government reps to put pressure on to get it changed.

Well, the article is almost a year old. Things have changed since then regarding price. However until you posted, I have not heard of one post from anyone who thinks ethanol is good for old cars.

I sort of agree with Leno. Now that everybody says that we are swimming in cheap crude oil, it seems like a good time to cut way back on government ethanol subsidies. That will probably never happen because big ag owns so many politicians. In many parts of the country you can't buy ethanol free gas at any price. What we should have is the choice to buy ethanol free gas nationwide. I personally haven't had the issues that Leon describes with any of my cars but I'm not driving Duesenbergs either. I started putting 4 oz. of Marvel Mystery Oil in my old rides whenever I fill up and I haven't had any issues. I'm not a Marvel Mystery Oil salesman, just a happy customer.

He should just be running his own fuel. If I had his money I'd have regular deliveries of 100 octane unleaded.

How often do you run your vehicle? I used to drive a 360 powered pickup with a 650 Holley on it and the 10% crap would mess up the rubber parts in short order and on stuff that sat for much time at all showed corrosion on the metal parts. If you drive often, it's not so bad but for stuff that isn't run often, it's a killer. Now I'm also thinking that Leno's older carbs might not have better metal in them.....?

OK. But I don't want that **** in my car. Right now, no choice.

On my smaller toys I have been adding 2 stroke oil with fuel stabilizer. Im running about 100 to 1. 2 or 4 stroke it seems to help. Of course 2 stroke is oil inj and if its pre mix thats 50 to 1. Think I will try this with the charger.

I run premium non ethanol in all of my old cars and truck except the newer ones with fuel injection. It took about 5 gallons of ethanol laced junk in my 60 Dodge to eat up the accelerator pump. I don't even run that **** in my lawn mowers. We still have a few gas stations that have the non ethanol premium but it is getting harder to find.

Most premium gas sold here in Ontario (maybe all Canada?) are all ethanol free. I don't use ethanol gas in anything except in my truck...which is Flex Fuel E85.

Note to fellow Canucks...Petro Canada Ultra 94 has ethanol in it. Petro Canada stations that do not carry Ultra 94 will not have ethanol in their premium gas.

Last week in Buffalo NY regular unleaded was $2.55 a gal, ethanol was $2.85 a gal.

I'm bumping every other tank with an ounce of Amsoil 100:1 Marine to combat the effects. Usually OK around town. High heat in Reno and 5000 elevation can cause evaporation even though the engine temp is OK. That's what it is, the bowl empties while idling, boils at a lower temperature.

All of our stations here in southern Okla. have the non ethanol, it is about 15 to 20 cents more per gallon. I run it even in my new stuff and seem to get better milage out of it.

Jay Leno is having trouble with his fleet of Deusenbergs?
Cry me a river. (Mock jealousy. He's a good guy)

I've been running this stuff (10 % not the E85) for a years in my A bodies.
I've run a lot through my daily drivers with no problems.
I drive a lot of miles.
These are basic old cars with 4 BBLs and 318s.
Of course, they have new rubber lines, etc.
That being said, it's my new vehicles that worry me.
See, I just had a ECU fail on me last week. Rare, but it happens.
The ECU was no more than 2 years old.
It wasn't a problem. I just got a spare used ECU out of my trunk.
What worries me is what the alcohol gas might do to my new cars that don't get driven.
They are black boxes
I can't fix them on the side of the road.
I smell a corrosion conspiracy.
