I've been home to long

My wife is an awesome cook. When our first child was born, she quit work and stayed home with the kids. She worked her a$$ off, cooking, cleaning, taking care of the kids, handling house chores, etc. When they went off to college she started working again to help pay for college.

Now the kids are on their on and I retired in 2020. But my wife is still working, so I am doing most of the cooking. Mind you, I am no expert, but my skills are growing. So yes, mostly I am doing fairly simple stuff, but occasionally, I try my hand at making something special. I'll tell you, it takes time, planning and skill to put a nice meal together so it is cooked well and all dishes are done at the same time! But I'm learning.

I find that I am expanding my use of our grill - even in the dead of winter! One of my favorites is beer can chicken. It is easy to make, tastes great and is cost effective. Best of all, I get to shamelessly drink half a beer :drinks:

Oh, and I don't wear an apron!!! :D

When I was a young guy living at home I would volunteer to help cook so I'd get out of doing outside work. I ended up loving to make food taste good. I ended up opening a restaurant and it did very well. In the last 10 years I've really started to like baking. I bake our breads, hamburger buns, and anything else requested. Baking is like chemistry...if you want perfect results every time you have to weigh the flour.

20 years ago after I started my business, my wife was working 9 to 5. Kids were in college by then. I took on the grocery shopping as my weekly schedule usually had holes in it and my office work was in the house aside from field work, roughly 50% fieldwork. Also did more of the cooking...then some more. I’m retired now. About 6 years ago my wife started working remote and took over my office (programmer) needing 3 computers going. I moved out to my heated garage/shop. Once you do this…there’s no reset button or is difficult to find so it seems. I get the excuse that she did the shopping for years with our two kids along with an endless payback, lol. Well, will see what happens when she retires in another few months.

We have a masterbaker in our midst.

Sorry, was having SNL flashbacks.
