i just bought a 440 for my 67 coronet wagon.it came with a new jegs electronic distributer.
the one with the external coil not the chevy big cap type.
can i run an msd digital box and eliminate the mopar ignition stuff?
any wiring suggestions?

Need more info. It is not a HEI dist if the coil is external.

Yes, you can run a MSD box with that dist. The only 'electronics' inside it is the pick up, which generates the signal to produce a spark. There are much cheaper alternatives than a MSD box.
You can mount a GM 4pin HEI module on the side or underneath the dist. Use that with a MSD #8207 E core coil or Summit #850500 E core, both are relatively cheap & effective.
E core coils are faaaaaaaaaaaar more efficient than canister coils. Run 0.060" plug gaps.

The above will give you a very powerful ign system for a very modest cost. The above coils do not need a ballast resistor, nor the Chrys ECU. All of that can be removed & wiring is much simplified [ you will find it on the net ].
GMs HEI with it's variable dwell levelled the playing field CD 'box' igns.
