With the exhaust tack welded in place forward of the mufflers, I have started working on the tail pipes. Unfortunately with the inboard mounted 4 link I have to modify the TTI tail pipes to fit.

Thanks

Pat

Excellent work! When I was younger I worked at an exhaust shop and really liked it, I was a bit of an "artist" in that I took a lot of time to get pipes to run well front to back. Since I no longer have an exhaust bender (despite lusting for one for years), I have taken to the same method you are using and have achieved some fantastic results that even a bender could not do. Most recently I snaked 2.5" exhaust through the 4 link system on my Cuda and it came out very well.

A mandrel exhaust pipe bender would be nice, but I think you’re correct you can achieve much tighter radiuses cutting and splicing. Thank you!

Thank You!

Next project is the trunk floor and mini tubs.
Thanks!

First off, your build is incredible. I’m late to the party, but it was awesome to be able to see it come together. How do you blend those patches so well, if I may ask? I noticed some weld seams are on 90 degree angles rather than just flat spots, and it all looks perfect once you’re done. Progressively finer sanding?

I got a lot of practice restoring my sons 68 bullet mustang;-) as with many best advice I can give you is weld slow! Keep the heat in the panel low! I also grind off as much of the high spots welds as you tack the panel together, instead of waiting until the whole panel is welded. I find that helps prevent warping and you can run a cooler weld as each spot weld is not much thicker than the panel itself. Try to keep the grinding just to the weld not the panel, Then using 80/60 grit sandpaper on a DA go over the panel and welds to blend them together.
Hope that makes sense and helps!
Thanks
Pat

I finished up the tail pipes, just need to cut the slash tips off to install the rectangular polish stainless exhaust tips. Then I started working on the cut outs. Fortunately one of our belt sanders is the same dimensions as the exhaust!

Thanks

Pat

You do amazing work, it is a pleasure watching this car come together. Looking forward to seeing this and the Mustang side by side

Cutouts and S/S tips are fitted! Time to tig weld all the seams and have the exhaust ceramic coated to match the headers.

Thanks

Pat

Pretty on the outside is one thing Pretty under and inside shows you care
You have a super cool build

All welded up and I will be delivering it to JetHot Saturday for a polished ceramic coating. All of the amateur welds that you can’t see are mine and all of the visible welds are by a good friend and expert welder. A man’s got to know his limitations;-)

Thanks

Pat
