Name THREE things that you LOVE about your state !

I can do far better than, just 3;

great car culture (despite the govt. & all that comes with the great climate.)
great parts suppliers, thousands of car related businesses/manufacturing
great racing & tracks (usually available 10 or more months a year)
great driving adventures (rural road trips, stay away from freeways, especially during commute)
great weather (pretty hard to beat Calif. for it's weather 7 of every 10 years, it's spectacular)
great golf & great golf courses (great weather is a huge part of that)
great sports state, professional & amateur alike
great fishing, ocean, rivers, streams/creeks or lakes
great hunting, an abundance of wildlife
great camping, an abundance of great campgrounds
great recreational activities & parks (partially because our weather)
great skiing, an abundance of great resorts (abundance of ski bunnies)
great wages/income (If you want to work, you can make a great living here)
the Pacific Ocean
great surfing (with beach bunnies)
almost a 1000 miles of great beaches (again abundance of beach bunnies)
great vast wide open rural spaces (most outsiders are clueless as to what Calif. has)
beautiful scenery (sometimes, as far as the eye can see)
great California Girls (scantily dressed 10-11 months of the year)
great awesome sites of Yosemite Valley (way too many tourists from everywhere else)
all of the mountains & rural Calif. (abundance of spectacular conservative people)
great agriculture (we have vast amounts of open farmland, dairy's & ranching,
all feeding the US or world, it's far more then the rest of the US or the world perceives
)
Most years I can wear shorts & tee-shirt, sandals for 10-11 months,
for 300+ days a year
Almost all my family is from here & most are still living here,
I'm from & born here, my family has been here for many generations...

the negatives are;

state income taxes
sales taxes (that don't get used properly)
Earthquakes (really are few & far between)
Shitty Maj. Politics (need I say more)
Hollyweird/Celebrity view points (that don't match most of Calif.'s residents)
higher cost of living than many places, less than others
too many illegals freeloading (politics)
too many panhandlers, welfare-ites in the inner-shitty (politics)
too many transients from elsewhere (that have screwed up the once great state)
poor water management (politics)
poor forestry & fire management (politics)
Media perceptions, people being clueless what California really is like,
they only believe **** the get fed by media or propaganda
IF you stay away from the bigger shitty's & politics, it's near perfect place...
If not for the corrupt politics, state income taxes & the inner-shitty's
crowded freeways (it's not like that away from them, out in Rural Calif.),
it'd be a far better place, just like it was for my 1st 40+ years here...
Most all the negatives are attributed to lousy leadership in our politics...
Thanks Bud, good post!

And it just wouldn't be a 'Budnicks' if we couldn't say afterwards,

1. Lack of people
2. Lack of people
3. Lack of people

TENNESSEE;
Great People
Great Food
Great Weather (although unpredictable)

Ok, here we go for the show me state,
Missouri. The views of the rolling hills in the country side is beautiful with rivers and lakes through out the state. We usually have little less than 10 inches of snow in the winter, or there abouts. Taxes I can live with, cheap gas and the St Louis Cardinals baseball team. Other than that, we all share the same government, just thought I throw that in there... LOL.

i live in new york state and i cant think of 3 things.
if i ever sell half of my carp,im moving south to a warmer climate.
and no,i wont be using the Gps to move with lol !!

New York has some very nice stuff:
1. Great landscape: Niagara Falls, the Finger Lakes, The Thousand Islands region, Adirondack Mountains, Lake Champlain and Hudson River for example.
2. Summer is not too hot, and when it is we occasionally get a beautiful day with cool dry air courtesy of our neighbors to the North, Canada another nearby place that I enjoy visiting particularly the Georgian Bay area very nice.
3. I live in a hamlet about 15 miles from Rochester and there is almost ZERO crime in my neighborhood. Good people.

Family
First Generation Californian and half first Generation American.

I fixed it for me..

1. Pacific Ocean
2. San Juan Islands
3. High gas prices, sales tax. Might as well like it since it ain't gonna change anytime soon! Did I mention the cost of living and the commute.. Yea!

I was going to title this FIVE things but figured that might be difficult to achieve....
California:
1) Weather is fantastic.
2) Cars don't rust as easily.
3) Where I live, I am about 2 hours or less from some great or interesting places: Lake Tahoe for skiing, San Francisco for watching freaks and such, Mountains and lakes nearby, etc.
YOUR turn...
What do you like about Nevada? Texas? Colorado? Alabama? Tennessee? New York ??

You probably started this thread as you are considering a move away from California. I don't remember the title of your other related thread.

Listed below are all of the places that I have lived for extended periods of time (domiciles & TDYs)..long enough to form a pro/con opinion. Also, I have briefly visited other places for both business (e.g., Boston, MA & Nashua, NH) and pleasure (e.g. Tennessee & Mississippi), but they are not listed here.
  1. Albuquerque, New Mexico
  2. Finger Lakes region, New York
  3. Cheltenham, England
  4. Cincinnati, Ohio
  5. Dallas, Texas
  6. Denver, Colorado
  7. Fort Worth, Texas
  8. Grand Prairie, Texas
  9. Greenbelt, Maryland
  10. Huntsville, Alabama
  11. Irvine, California
  12. Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
  13. Newport News, Virginia
  14. Norfolk, Virginia
  15. Palmdale, California
  16. Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
  17. Richmond, Virginia
  18. Rockford, Illinois
  19. San Diego, California
  20. Savannah, Georgia
  21. Seattle, Washington
  22. Sterling Heights, Michigan
  23. Stratford, Connecticut
  24. St. Louis, Missouri
  25. Taichung, Taiwan (nice place to visit)
  26. Torrance, California
  27. York, Pennsylvania
  28. Washington, D.C.

My "top-5" list of states for you to consider:
  1. Alabama
  2. Colorado
  3. New Mexico
  4. Texas
  5. Utah
I will note here that I liked what I saw (people & places) in Mississippi & Tennessee during vacation trips. They TOO are worth your consideration IMO.

Good luck to you and the Mrs.

edit: added Sterling Heights.

Washington State:

1) Scenery; Cascade Mt range with Rainer, Adams and a host of others, national parks, water views, rivers, and lots of green.
2) Agriculture; we live in the middle of spectacular apple orchards, vineyards, and Hops growing. 75% of all beer brewed in the US gets their hops from the Yakima Valley.
3) Climate; with the notable exception of a Mediterranean climate, we have them all, from the continental US’s only rain forest, the Hoh in the Olympic range, to the middle of the state where its so dry and hot there are rolling sand dunes (near Moses Lake).

4) Electricity rates; with all the hydro power they nearly give away electricity. Example: last summer during the hottest month (almost 2 weeks above 100 daily) with the a/c running away, we paid $45 to cool a 3000sq ft house.
5) Vintage car YOM plates, one time fee ($47 for my 65 Coronet).

The bad; Seattle and all the left wing wackos there; gasoline prices, only higher in CA; did I mention the toilet bowl known as Seattle? Insurance rates. Housing costs.

1. miles and miles of public ground full of forests.
2. Wonderful fishing
3. Low taxes (property , vehicle , no state income tax)
