Stressed out about finding a new doc
to renew some BP prescriptions, and
some desperately needed surgery on
my foot, I spent the majority of the
day searching for a PCP who
accepts Medicare as primary
insurance.
BP was 175/94. On the verge of
strokin' out.
As a walk in, finding care on the spot
is next to near impossible.
Fourth attempt netted a score and
after hearing my concerns, agreed
to see me right away.
As I was being escorted to a
treatment room, there was a young
lady holding her baby not too far
behind me, being escorted to the
treatment room next to mine.
With my back turned to the three
behind me, I heard the nurse say
"He's so cute".
Before mom could reply, I replied
where the nurse and mom could hear
me.
"Thank You!"

I'm an ugly old cuss, that is the
proverbial "rode hard and put away
wet" (please, no references to
sexual connotations).
It was good to hear the laughter,
that turned out to reduce the BP
by 20 points on the high end.

Glad to hear you got to see doctor and hope you have gotten your BP under control. There's a reason they call it the silent killer. I was about the same as you with my BP and didn't know it back in 95. I had taken a different job with the airline and had to take a physical to be qualified to run and taxi jet aircraft. All I know is the nurse starting asking me all kinds of questions about what I had been doing at work and eating and if I felt okay. Then she made me lay down and relax for a while before she checked me again. Then she told me what was going on and told me I needed to see a doctor the next day if possible. I had no idea because I felt fine. I've been on meds ever since and the older I've gotten the easier it is to tell when my BP is running high. Now that I'm retired I get more exercise and my BP has gotten a lot better.
Nice touch at the doctors office. It always helps break the tension a little with something like that, especially at the docs office. I always try to get the nurse to laugh somehow as they have a tough job and it helps their day go a little better I think. Take care

Thanks for your reply.
The first time it was discovered I
suffered from extreme hypertension,
I was at a dentists office. My BP
was 175/95. Scared me half to
death. (ha ha). I spent many trips
to the docs office before he came up
with the correct combination of
drugs that were able to bring the BP
under control. Like you, I felt fine
thru this whole ordeal.
I now monitor 3 times a day. Rigorous
exercise is out due past major
injuries.
Our stories should convince others
to get checked out. I was 39 when
a simple trip to the dentist revealed
a life threatening situation. I'm 68
now, still kickin'.

"CUTIE".....ha ha ha...
The wife calls me that, but she's got
a great memory. And a bookcase full
of old photo albums.

I do. Three times a day. The Doc is
interested to see if the paralyzed
brachial plexus I have, has any direct
effect on my wild BP swings.
