New Corvette

Still on the fence.........and it looks more Euro to me.....no more good ole fashioned U.S. of A. ingenuity anymore when it comes to the designs of the new cars....IMO
Maybe they are thinking of the global market.....most cars that "look American" only sell in volume in the US.....i can see that selling in Europe.....but yes its almost a Ferrari F8 clone....even down to the wheels.

I went to Corvettes @ Carlisle this year.
Seemed there were many more new ones than old ones.
All the dealers there who had new ones on display were all sold and a long waiting list.
Ordered lead time was some time in Jan. or Feb.
There were a few like "new" (used) and they had sold stickers on them also.

I had a guy in one of those pissing himself trying to get my attention in my charger, he really had something to prove I guess.

I have owned a few Vetes decades ago. Even did a total resto on a was it 68 or 9 427 4 bbl example gel coat and all. 86 was the newest.
I hated that people saw me in a Vette and thought "midlife crisis"!! Only good thing about them is they take corners like on rails.
I went to Bloomington Vette deal once, I was around the hard core guys I guess. I know the Corvette guys hate them being called Vettes, sounds too much like Chevette! I just did not fit in. Never had another. They were really just something to flip anyway.
The C4 and C5s are really cheap fun cars IF you find a good one. For corners that is!

Same here. I did the NCRS thing and have restored a car that received the Duntov award, and even met Zora Duntov. Corvette guys take fussy to a whole new level, and it got old pretty fast. I still have a ‘70 350/350 4 speed convertible that is just a hoot to drive. I love my Charger but that old Vette is also something special and fun.

I never understood why someone would take a sports car like a Corvette to the drag strip. Should run a Corvette on a lefty-righty up/down track like Watkins Glen or a parking lot full of cones to go around and dodge.

maybe she pulled in inside the coffee shop?

True story. I had a 2008Z06. Stupid fast car. Lightest corvette ever made with 427 engine.
Was always just so so on the car itself.
One day I was at a coffee shop. Lady pulls in next to me and says "thats some mid life crisis you have going on there"

Sold it soon after. View attachment 1188683
Sounds like a widow or divorcee that wanted you to lavish her with gifts and money because she is special and deserves the attention.

Glad I didn't marry one of those types, whatever type that is.

The going brag about the L88 Corvette was it was the quickest production car of the first muscle car era. Worth over a half a mil now. The ‘67 even more. But put a set of sticky tires on it...

Yeah, in FAST stock class, the 427 Corvette is about all that is up to or better than the 426 Hemi equipped cars.
Apparently the IRS rear axle must do a pretty good job with traction.

Put a big tire on it... and we’ll talk.:D

My recollection is that big block Corvettes broke the half shafts pretty frequently. I have heard a couple of knowledgeable Corvette guys say it is common to find a mid-year (C2) big block Corvettes with some fiberglass damage from broken half shafts...

I remember going to Atco in the late 70’s. The few guys that brought a Vette to grudge night, usually came back with an upgraded rear. Never a 12 bolt. Usually a Dana out of a Mopar B body. I guess the spacing was a good fit. Some went to the 9”. Currie was just getting parts out for them.

Doesn't the ZL1 Camaro hold it's own? I haven't looked, but I know it was very fast when brand new.

I would think so.
I mention the Corvette because that is something I recently read about in FAST class racing.

We were down in Georgia for an NCRS regional years ago and there was a local collector, Milt Robson who would have a couple of his cars driven to the show daily. One was a '57 Chevy with fuel injection, a '59 Caddy Eldorado Biarritz, and most notable a real '69 Camaro ZL-1. You could hear that car coming from 1/2 a mile away, and it was a bone stock original.

I liked the styling of my old mid-engined (80 horsepower/5 speed) '70 Porsche 914 (Motor Trends "Import Car of the Year" for 1970) over this "sculpted" mess. It would squeeze out 29 MPG on the highway. My Dad and I had different tastes, he was always offering to replace my "junky" little car for me. (He was driving a giant Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham at the time) No thanks.

Porche has a great look we all agree I’m a bit dissatisfied with gm the styling is trying to steal from Italian designs and they should just be themselves and not copy cat Lamborghini or Ferrari

Yes, when I restored my 66 - 427, my first fiberglass repair experience was glassing in the big hole and sloppy patch in the right rear compartment ahead of the axle where a blown u-joint or broken half shaft had beat it to death. It has an old school 4-bolt block built up with L-88 heads, intake, internals except 12:1 pistons and a bigger mechanical cam, and 4:11 rear so it wasn’t hard to figure. After I removed the half shafts during my restoration I found the yokes of one were twisted around out of phase within the other end due to twist in the shaft tube. Those rear end half shafts and u-joints really get punished.

I saw the new model Corvette coming down the road yesterday..looked like some Ferreri or Lamboghini to me. OK so I can't spell Italian!!?? lol:thumbsup::poke::poke::rofl:
