i'm leary of brass plugs . sometimes they will blow out. i don't think they retain tension to hold them in as well as steel. some folks have had to pin them.
I have to replace my OEM starter and I have a set of headman headers on the 440. I am hoping to get the headers loose and move around some so I can get to this starter. It currently is nearly impossible to even get to the bolts to loosne it. I am going to replace it with a mini My question is do I need to jack up the enginge? I dont have power steering. Just wondering what others have done to replace the starter
Canyon, sometimes you can take the header loose and get the starter out without raising the engine. Sometimes you can't. I had a '64 Polara, 383, that I installed the headers without raising the engine. Replaced the starter at a later date by just loosening the header. It all depends on the style header that you have. You will have an easier time with the smaller starter though.
Loosen up the header and try to get it out. If it won't go then you'll have to raise the engine on that side. Good luck...
When I replace the drivers exhaust manifold. I always pull the stearing Column. This would also help with headers. The passenger side should go with just Removing your spark plugs if you have a hoist
