Is anyone else like me.. you keep playing with your engine and putting parts on it even though you're not ready to install it yet?

REMEMBER DON'T RUN THAT NEW MOTOR ON YOUR NEW HEADERS !! NICE MOTOR

            TTI FOOTNOTE #17
Ceramic Coating Warning - First Engine Runs

We strongly suggests that you use an old set of headers or set of cast iron manifolds for your first engine run / cam break-in. This will insure that you will not damage the coating and void the warranty of your new headers. Header coating damage usually occurs during the first engine run / break-in when the exhaust temperatures exceed 1200ºF. Excess exhaust temperatures are normally caused by excessively rich or lean air / fuel mixtures and / or incorrect ignition timing.

Thanks... It's a full roller, so there's no 'break-in' like a flat tappet, so we'll be fine.

Not really. It would have been great to build onto this engine, but I already spent way too much on the first build, and it didn't even last 25k miles. Huge disappointment... it was supposed to be about 375 HP, ended up being far less, slightly over 300. Fine for a cruiser, but not for how I use the car.

With the lack of performance components it's already at a deficit, and being a project car still we didn't want to use an engine that, essentially, nobody really cares about.

Have to make sure everything fits. Just Sunday, put the main motor mount bolt into the mount, and found the welded nut was messed up from where it was welded on. Had to tap and chamfer the nut so the bolt would go in. It would have sucked worse to find that issue after putting the engine on the K-member (in the car.)

flat or roller tappet - you can still be too rich or lean at start up

Being too lean and overheating the unseasoned headers would be the main reason why they say not to use them.

Fuel mixture usually has nothing to do with it. Low timing resulting in a late burn puts heat in the headers cooking the coating.

They write that disclaimer cause most people are idiots that can get a decently in the ball park tune on an engine on start up, couple with to stupid to install or eye ball the temp gauge and read a timing light.

I’ve broken in brand new HFT & SFT cams with brand spankin new TTI headers and haven’t had a problem with there coating.

                                Use your head fellas!
