No Electric power?

I was putting I a new dash, and I didn't touch the ignition or the fuse box, but now I am getting no power to the fuse box (so I don't even know if the dash works) no lights and engine don't turn over.
What's the first thing I should look at?

The steering column is dropped a few inches, and the steering wheel is off, maybe a ground somewhere? But I see no power going to the fuse box.

Please tell me you didn't do this with the battery in the car?

nah. I figured it our though. The Amp wire was hanging there. I grounded it out and everything works again. Kind of. Still bugs to sort out though.
