No start - very weak spark

Well........sooooo um I was able to get some spark, but I pretty sure the distributor reluctor / rotor should not be able to spin freely.
Can you be more specific ?

With the distributor mounted inside the engine , the rotor just spun freely on the shaft ?

Or the distributor shaft and rotor spun freely all together , and the distributor hold down was secure

I bought a new distributor and a new control module. Still a light thin brownish spark. No start.

During testing I can make it spark with a test light. But it looks nowhere near the spark in the picture.

These exact drawings/sketches of the two different ignition system connections have been presented in at least 50 times thus far.....redundant??....or perhaps, people just don't understand???......

Bob, let’s review your feedback:

You pointed out incorrect information regarding the control module's function.

You made a comment about turning the car into a lawn ornament.

You suggested purchasing a rebuilt distributor from a forum member.

You reiterated the need to review the wiring schematics.

I ask that future feedback remain constructive and focused on actionable, helpful suggestions.

I agree. Not everyone is an experienced Mopar tech. Some are just learning or have never seen this problem.

I bought a starter switch as suggested and starter relay.

I will update with the results.

How many volts should the coil have during cranking (while the key is turned and the starter is spinning)?

I can tell you that on my 69 Roadrunner it is the same as you would read at the battery while cranking, about 10.9V. The start position on the key switch bypasses the ballast to give your coil the full battery voltage for starting.

Thank you. I will test mine before replacing the parts.

I had issues with starting, especially when my engine was hot and sat for a while. I patched in everything, and no luck till I patched in a coil. Seems to be fine now.

Interesting. Everything on mine is "cold".

I am not getting a bright white spark.
