Believe it or not I did put that motor back together and here is a burn out a couple of weeks later.

Unfortunately a few months later it spun a rod bearing and it is where it sits now. On an interesting side note you can see this car at the end of the movie the Wolf of Wall street. It is in a storage yard next to the prison at the end when Jordon Belfort is going to prison.

So the plan is to bring the car home tomorrow and start the work to bring it back to life. One thought that occurred to me is will the high compression .060 over 383 put too much load on the 318 radiator? The 318 radiator was rodded out just before the old 383 motor expired. It did not have an overheating problem then but it was a stock bore 9 to 1 bottom end. I would like to keep this radiator if possible.

There is a car show and cruise coming up in Bakersfield in May. I came up with a half baked plan to assemble the new motor and install it in 2 weeks and go participate in the Open header cruise. My first thought was to just unload my Bracket Car 1969 Dodge Dart and have some fun but it doesn't have any passenger seats and or lights to speak of. So today is phase 1. Get the car home and move stuff around so I can get started on it.
So far I Loaded it on the trailer and have it sitting in front of the house. Getting it on the trailer turned out to be an adventure. The car trailer I use is not really wide enough so centering was critical. I used a chain and my jeep to pull it up the ramps. It is very low so exhaust scraped all the way up.
Now it is home but have to unload it and push it around. I live in a very hilly area so moving the car once it is here will not be easy. I am going to back the race car out of the garage and park it behind my plymouth at the bottom of my driveway. Leaving the empty garage and plymouth to have maximum access.

Well most of that was done by me at different stages of my ownership. Unfortunately it wound up being neglected for way to long.

Success it is down in the Driveway next to the race car

Spent the afternoon in the garage reassembling my short block. I am ready now to start pulling parts off my old motor to clean and refurbish for the new motor. Hope to have it running in a couple weeks. Here is a pic from today. I thought I took more lol.

Spent some more time in the garage today. got the old motor partially disassembled so I could put the cam and lifters in the new motor. The cam was fairly new when the motor let go so barring any damage or excessive wear I was planning on reusing the cam in the new motor. Cam looked good. Moved all the lifters to the same position in the new motor. Lots of work still to go with cleaning of heads, intake, water pump housing etc.

Ok quick question. I was planning on using this orange pan that I acquired some time ago . The pan that was on this when it was last running was this chrome pan. I assumed the orange pan was bigger due to the longer sump but the sump is not as deep as the chrome pan. What would you guys use. It has a high volume pump and plans on spinning to 6500.
