Not sure is this is the right place to post...

On a 74 charger, what are all the parts needed to piece together a hideaway headlight setup? I am not seeing anyone selling one, but do see parts here and there... are all the parts interchangeable between a 71 & 72 or 100% different?

Hello Hijinx,
I don’t have the answers to your questions but I do have a few parts I would be willing to sell if you are interested.

Hideaways grilles doors surround trim and all its brackets.

Center motor and its mounting bracket.

Rod and clips

Is adviced to use 71/72 hideaways cars headlight buckets since the are shorter to get more clearence for the headlight doors, BUT has being prooved is not mandatory.

I can't recall at this moment if there is some horizontal bar reinforcement needed. I think not

Of course remove all the standard grille brakets

And of course all the wiring and relay ( a standard 5 pins bosch relay can be used too ). Wiring can be home made even is being sold around.

On dodgecharger.com has being posted this many times. Will try to grabb one of the threads and post.

Mostly sure will find the factory diagram around too

here has being talked, BUT I'm pretty sure none of the bumper brackets system is needed from 71/72 and 73/74 can be used. I can see the 73/74 top bracket ready for some of this stuff with pre drilled holes not being used on standard grilles setup. Even the bumper is on bottom, where the motor bracket also mounts

Could have sworn I saw a complete setup on craigslist and I usually check Jersey - do a search and expand the area to 100-200 miles.

Yeah, i just did a search bout an hour ago, didn't see anything... will look again... there is a guy in Manassas looking to complete his set... jerk got my hopes up his post has a picture of the setup, but he is just looking for parts. :(

here a rear view of the hideaways assembly... my ONLY DOUBT could be the top bumper reinforcement, because the provision to the doors bracket assembly on inner top bolt. I'm pretty sure 73/74 also have this provision, but unused

and here is BY THE SELLER a 74 bumper reinforcement assembly ( which I think is true because the outer grill brackets on 71/72 are as far I recall more curved )... and I CAN SEE the provisions for the headlight doors assembly on both ends of top reinforcement, SOOOO, I can't see anything needed from a 71/72 bumper aside the related small brackets all around, and the motor bracket.

check anyway on your own bumper top reinforcement for that provision.

even the center holes for the motor bracket ( the bottom of the bracket attachs straight to the bumper )

Hijinx, Here's my stash of hideaway stuff. I'd be willing to sell either of the complete 72 setups. I don't think I'd be willing to sell The 71 stuff, it only came out to uncover the 72 setups. Let me know. Thanks, -Tom

I have a headlight harness out of a 72 if needed

Warms my heart to see FBBO stand up to help this guy out. Good stuff fellas, good stuff....

I have bought parts from Tom (aka Moparsaver) recently, and they were better than expected and shipped promptly. You won't be disappointed! I put a hideaway headlight grille assembly in my 73 Charger, and I slotted the front bumper brackets, and made two brackets for the upp corners of the headlight doors inner brackets to attach to the bumper. The headlight pods clear the doors, but are a little tight. They don't hit though.

Hey Pete, you said recently in that disaster sold convertible thread that you wished a 71 R/T hood would fall out of the sky. I’ve got a hood(some small rust issues-nothing you couldn’t handle), drain tray, and louvered insert. Could you or Pam&Gary use it? I could drive it down to you to take a look...
