Pulled a Thermoquad (6139S for '72 340 auto) after a recent rebuild to check for vacuum leaks. Performed an almost complete disassembly. Put all loose parts in sandwich bags labeled A thru F (parts removed first went into bag A, then B, etc.) With everything bagged as I went, no chance of misplacing anything, right?

Today went to put it back together. After the main body screws were snug, found the metering rod covers with their screws in a bag but no metering rods. I have an old AVS carb on the shelf, but looks like metering rods don't interchange.

They were not dirty when I removed them, so no reason to believe they are soaking in a jar somewhere around here. And the funny thing is, in my own mind I had them in my hands once already today. Now I'm thinking maybe not.

I am going to check the refrigerator next. I have five and six year old grand kids here that get into everything, but I kept them away from this carb stuff and as far as I know they never had access to it.

I have lost a whole Jack stand in my garage. I used to have a set of 4; now have only 3. I have looked everywhere.

I lost an original max wedge/hemi distributor clamp years ago. Set it down and never saw it again..

You could ask my friends......my shop is the abyss of lost parts and tools. It doesn't matter that you had it in your hand a minute ago, or if you take the garage apart looking for something.
It just never shows up. LOL

Well one things for certain as my Dad always told me: "it'll always be in the last place you look"!

Everytime I put down anything in my garage, it completely blends in with everything else and disappears! I go out and buy things again and then find the original ones I bought later on! That's why I have several of the same cars so nothing goes to waste! Lol

Of a number of things lost, I still don't know what happened to a longboard I'd used for many years.

Built a 70 Challenger for a friend, he bought a set of pink grips for the pistol grip, (was an FM3 car), a year after the car was done we found the pistol grips in a box on the dash of a 57 Dodge truck project. From then on the joke was for anything missing, "go look on the dash of the 57."

I lost my youth. No sign of it yet.

Would you check the dash of your '57 for me? Maybe the back seat.:monkeyleft:

Update: After giving up looking, I sat down and moved a folder on the middle shelf right in front of my armchair and computer (which is on the top shelf) and a pair of metering rods slid off the folder. Oh, now I remember.

I'll see your metering rods,.... and up you a guitar.

Over 10 yrs and still hasn't showed up!

How is that possible, ...of something so big?!

Mind blowing,...but I have moved on, and yes I have others.

I lost a childs 4 wheeler in my storage. It was on the pallet rack behind a snowmobile. Took me 4 hours to find it

I made some beautiful 7075 rocker shaft stands for my maxwedge heads. Much thicker and stronger than the original cast stands.

I sure hope I find them some day.
