Good Morning All-

The Petty 426 hemi '66/'67 Belvedere tribute car had to be pulled from the previous builder as they shut down and goes to it's new builder this week for completion.

Wheels- We'll be running the 8.00 x 15 Goodyear Blue Streak with a 10.3" tire width. Attached is a picture of the real car wheels. Are they standard Mopar or ? I have a custom wheel shop telling me they are Oldsmobile.

Yeah, I've tried that previously and gotten no response. I suppose I could fly into one of their open house events from CA if no one has the answer but I'm betting on this forum and some of the old timers that used to race.

if it is a 5 on 4 1/2 pattern , it wouldn't be Oldsmobile or any gm wheel for that matter. it looks like a Ford wheel to me.

Even though Ford wheels have the same bolt pattern, they often have a smaller center hub hole making them not fit. Perhaps Chrysler's wheel shop made extra wide rims for the race teams? Or could they be truck wheels?

Don't quote me but I believe reading at sometime that they used Imperial wheels and brakes that had a 5'' bolt pattern from the early 60's. I'm sure they widened them as tires got bigger and better..

The drag guys used to pull the centers out of the A100 wheels and stick weld them into wider donuts. I have a full set of A100's we can use the centers from if we can ID the donuts.

You can call them.

They are 20 miles down the road from me and I have called them numerous times about carb tuning issues. They are very friendly and very helpful. If you can't get the answer you need, PM me and I will drive over there and get you the answers you need.

I think the first picture may be more accurate than the second one that I dug up, not because of any particular wheel shape but because it seems to have longer wheel studs. Were longer studs a race item in the 60's?

Don't quote me on it
But;

IIRC the Ford wheels have a 4 holes in them by the rim
4 attaching points with multiple holes/welds in each
to the outer rim
photo in the org post #1 looks like a Ford centers,
with the holes on the perimeter

IIRC The vintage Chrysler/Dodge/Plymouth wheels
were a solid round center
{maybe they were Truck wheels ?, not sure}
no holes by the outer rim, more attachment/welding points
photos in post #8 look like Chrysler wheels

but don't quote me

If you read the link that JB400 posted, they talk about a 5" bolt circle because of the type of rear that was being used.

Photo of an original Nichels wheel. This one happens to be a 1970 15 x 9.5".
All stock cars used a 5" bolt circle.
All had double centers back then.
Notice, there are no hub cap nubs!
In 66-67 the width was 8".
Petty used Nichels wheels.
I think I have a set of 8" wheels kicking around...

Don't the centers of the Nascar wheels look like Ford pickup wheels of the 60's? 5 on 5....
