it's a VDO brand tach...it's very accurate, only goes to 6,000 rpm, I didn't build the car to race, I built it to drive on the freeway...

if ya need a better picture, I can try and get one this weekend

Bryan

And I bet you turn a lot of heads with that car.

What are your other gauges I'm seeing under your dash and over your console?

Did that VDO tach come with the hardware you used to mount it under the dash pad?

the tach came with the pod and mounting pad...it's just sheet metal screwed to the under side of the dash...the metal part. I think found it at a swap meet for like $10...of course that was back in the 90's when we were building the car.

The other gauges under the dash are mechanical water temp & mechanical oil pressure....the OE gauges in the dash still work, but I have found they are not all that accurate..thus the mechanical ones under there.

The gauge on the console is a factory Mopar vacuum gauge...got that at a swap meet way back when for $25....

I believe the one wire goes over to the fuse box and the other one connects to the negative side of the coil. I think blue with a stripe to the fuse and black eith a stripe to the coil.

Thanks red 69 runner. Did it come with the wiring? Is it pretty accurate?

No I had to buy both harnesses. Year One has them, one is for the dash side and one is for engine side, the dash side comes with a rubber grommet and if your car didnt come with a tach from the factory look on the fire wall for a small rubber plug and that is where they ran the wire thru but without the connector, I removed the plug and enlarged the hole with a vari bit until the new grommet fit,you have to do this because the dash side and the engine side connect on the engine side of the firewall and the connector is already installed on the wire. looks like factory installed.the tach light came with my tach from Year One.I checked the accuracy with my dial back timing light and it is accurate.

didn't we do this 2 weeks ago? or is it Deja' vu?
Sonny

sorry it is a '63 you wanted 66 or later?

I've have a bunch of gauges with the tach in my face, but when I hit the loud pedal,I can't see a one of them:icon_geek:

WHOA ! ! Sign me up, I would love to get in this beast and "hit the loud pedal" - that's A-W-E-S-O-M-E ! ! !

Which hole on the firewall did the tach wire go through?

My Charger when I got it, had it mounted/clamped to the steering column, I'm usually old school all the way, but hated it there, I hate having it blocking the dash to a degree, Since I have a center console, I'm going to mount a bracket on my console with heavy duty double stick, then mount the tach to that so I don't drill holes in my console. My bracket will be wedge shaped so it angles the tach slightly upward for the perfect view.

Mines on the column.

I just fabricated up this mount for a 66 Belvedere Im building. I did't want to drill into the dash so I got an 1/8" aluminum plate for work, cut it to the dimension of the speaker grille, and attached this mount system of brackets and flat aluminum stock. attached it all, painted it flat black and mounted it in the dash. Its pretty stiff so it doesn't move much. I like it but it doesn't allow the use of a speaker, unless I modify it or make a different plate.20140504_162059.jpg20140504_162119.jpg20140503_215256.jpg
