Pistons in backwards

that is an old super stock trick .Don't know why they did it. But, its not that rare in the old days

I remember Tom Hoover put his pistons in backwards in a 360 he built back in the late 70's. But they were flattops I believe and he said the pins were slightly off center so putting the pistons in backwards helped the piston rotation and freed up a tiny bit of hp. I have heard of some other old eng builders doing it on certain pistons but of course it wont work when you have valve reliefs with a high lift cam. And I honestly don't think it helped much if any as I have not seen it for many years and it would only help at all with pins offset some. Ron
