So I finally got my 72 Charger started (318) My question is that sometimes when I turn it off something keeps spinning. I think its the torque converter as I know its not the motor. Does this sound right to someone? If the torque converter is shot I'm going to replace the tranny and converter with a TCI 727 setup. What will I need to convert the 904 to 727?

What makes you think something is still "spinning"? What kind of noise does it make? Why do you think it's the converter? Any possibility that it's the engine fan (if clutch equipped) that is still "spinning"? And no, there is no way the converter can continue spinning when the motor is off.....not that I know of anyway

I've been told to check into the starter. That it might be the starter gear still spinning after the engine stops. I checked theirs nothing engine wise that is spining that I can see.

strange. 69runner is right. cant be convertor. Sitting in the car, what area is it coming from? How loud is it?

Sounds like its coming from the tranny but like I said it very well could just be the starter. Its a decent noise, but not terribly loud.

Sometimes when I try to start my 72 RR with the 727 AT, if it doesn't start and I take the key out of the Start position, my starter makes a spinning, whiny sort of noise. Just for a few secs and the noise slowly dies out. Someone told me what it was once, but it doesn't hurt anything. Did it on my 72 Cuda too.
Is that what your talking about?

There is a feed back of some kind to the starter motor if it is in fact spinning. I've saw this on about half a dozen 72 B & E body cars. Each time the starter relay was the culprit. Seems they shorted to ground on the hot post inside. This caused the starter to keep running without engaging the starter drive.
