Rear disc without the green bearings??

I'm on my 2nd set of green's on my '63 ('65 Coronet rear). I got a 1000 miles out of them. I hope that's the last time I need to install them...
 
I hear what your saying, it’s just old hearing the same old debate. Both styles of bearings are used successfully. For me, on full restoration, tapered, resto-mod, sealed.
I hear you on that. It wasn't intended to be a bearing debate, I was fishing for input on rear disc brake conversions that retain the original bearings and as always everyone starts the "what's wrong with green bearings" questions. At any rate the thread showed me what I needed to know and more so hats off to FBBO again.
 
I have installed 2 rear disc systems and in both cases I welded the caliper bracket to the rearend housing and retained the tapered bearings and adjusters.

As to the bearing issue, Cass spent some considerable time to address this issue on a forum some years back and explained the history and use of both bearings. He stated (I am paraphrasing here) that while the tapered bearings are a "technically" superior design, as it relates to use in a car/vehicle it is a bit of a moot point because either bearing will provide years of trouble free use in pretty much every vehicle application/use to include motor sports. He cited applications for each wherein they performed exemplary as well as instances of failure for each. In the end he had no bias either way and stated they both are adequate for use. As he said (again paraphrasing); as it relates to use in motor vehicles, either bearing will and has performed to expectations however like any "part" they can and do fail.
