I'm working on a steel 14" steel wheel which has some pitting on the inside on the bead surface. The rim has been blasted. I was planning on filling the pits with Devcon epoxy and smoothing with sandpaper and painting with epoxy.

They are not too deep and they do not affect integrity of the wheel. I've also heard of silicon bronze brazing the pits, but that is more work. Thoughts?

A couple of years ago I filled out a lot of rust pits on a pair of Ford 9' axle shafts, right where the seal contacts. I used JB Weld original formula and sanded them with a piece of emery cloth. No leaks have occurred to date.

I’ve used epoxy and even fill and sand primer on shallow pits in the day
