Replacing temp sender. Am I missing a boot or can I wrap the wire around the sender and secure with a rubber clamp/tape?

So my temp gauge doesn’t work. The wire at one point was disconnected and I decided to replace the sender while I’m in at it. I’d imagine a boot usually pops on over the sending unit but all I have is a wire. Do you think I could just strip the wire back and wrap it around the sending unit?

You can buy just the end of the temp sender wire in the aftermkt

Short term you could strip a wire and put a vacuum cap over it.

Looking at the shape of that wire I would replace the whole thing since it is brittle and cracking.

If you search at your local auto parts shop I bet you can find this on the HELP section

is available at ebay, but not cheap ( plus shipping ).

Unfortunatelly not available in violet color wire, like the original.

Standard Motor products PN S635 is one of the PN for it.

Advances lists it, O'Reillys, I bet Napa... etc...
