Rotella ok for 2.5 turbo motor?

My daughter just bought an 03 Pitiful Thing (PT) and it's a turbo....any reason why the Rotella shouldn't be used? With 3 other cars on the road, it'll keep me from having to stock another type of oil. I know this isn't a B body but....please :angel1:

As long as it's the correct vicosity it should be OK.

Well, I use 15w40....but everything has over 50k miles. The book says 10w30 for this climate and 5000 mile changes but it'll get it at 3k.

that PT should be using 5w30 ..... i wouldnt run 15w40 unless you need to ....

Actually, the book says 10w30 for the climate I live in and there's no way I'd use a 5w oil in anything down here. Hell, it was 83 degrees today but one mistake I did make....it's a 2.4 and not a 2.5

I know it's not summer here anymore but it's still pretty warm here and the viscosities are only a recommendation. Lighter weight oils improve cold engine starting and helps fuel economy but I will never run a 5w whatever oil in anything and I doubt a 15w40 is going to hurt anything especially at the temps the newer cars run at. I've only had one engine in my life that cold weather affected with a straight 30w and that was in a 71 Super Beetle (Super my butt lol) and the temps got down around 28 before it sounded like it had a low battery and it doesn't get down that cold here but once every blue moon.....however, a 40w is as heavy as I'll go in anything unless it's totally worn out lol. Btw, Normal high here for this time of year is about 70....

nice, we were thinking about moving to Texas. job market seems pretty strong still. but something about tornado's and rattlesnakes doesnt settle good with me !!

hey cranky i was in TX for the first time this past year in june , spent a week in a place called denton, i loved it there, what is weird though is it was a 100 degrees and didnt feel hot to me but when i got back to southeast KY in 90 degrees i would stay soaked in sweat,,guess the humidity, anyway i loved it in TX

Dont want to Go "off-topic" here, but the meaning of the "w" rating [IE:5w or 10w] is to denote the oils ability to flow at lower temperatures. Simply put, a 5w-30 oil is still a 30 weight oil, it is just formulated so that it will flow like a 5weight oil at a certain low temperature. Us cold weather Yankees know this! HaHa! Denton is a good 250+ miles north of Pasadena where I'm at. Yeah, we get tornadoes here from time to time but have never seen a big one and the last time one came through here was in 84 and since Denton is a long ways from the coast, the humidity is usually pretty low there. I'm only 9 miles from Galveston Bay and the humidity is usually pretty high here. Hurricanes is our biggest concern living this close to the Gulf. Even though rattlesnakes are found in many locations across the country, I have never seen a rattlesnake here but yeah, Texas has it's fair share.

Scott, right on about the oil. I worked for 26 years in a refinery and even tho I was a lowly machinist , we still learned a lot about oil. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't going to run into any problems like I did with my VW since my daughter is driving the PT. It doesn't get cold here very often but there are times when we will see temps below freezing and they are predicting 33 tonight. 85 Thursday afternoon and 40 Thursday night lol

I put Rotella in a Catera and I'd swear that it caused the oil pump to give up prematurely.
A bunch of new cars use the timing cover as the oil pump body and the harmonic damper presses into, or up next to, the pump gears to drive it. I assumed that the oil I used was too heavy and was distorting the case at start up.
Hope I got it all wrong, but the engine in that poor little one didn't survive it.

I understand those cars had oil pump problems no matter what oil they had....
