I traded my friend a kit of high quality Daytona clone parts and some cash for this 71 Charger R / T, that he dragged across the country from the Arizona desert. The car has all original sheet metal and was epoxy primed and being prepared for paint when my friend bought the car. He had intended to build the car himself, but a six pack car came up and he bought that one,so he decided to sell this one. We settled the deal more than two years ago, and this weekend I finally brought the car home. He had it stored in a storage trailer and we pulled it out of there last Saturday. It was nice of my friend to let me put my 66 Belvedere in its place in the storage trailer until I can get to it.

Some pictures of the car getting extracted from the trailer and loading it up for the trip home.

NICE HAUL @chargervert !! Love those 71-72s!!! Nice 66 too clean for a RI car as far as rust etc....

After getting the car home I noticed that the louvered insert for the R/T hood was on the floor of the car and was bent in half and broken. Luckily my friend had another one and gave it to me with the car! It would have sucked trying to find another one! That's what a real great friend is right there. The louvers sitting on the car go to my other 71 Charger R/T, and the two louvers on the Challenger convertible are the ones he gave me and the bent broken one after I tried to bend it back. I think that it is going to be wall art.

Nice car! So this one makes 21? Tell us a bit more about the car, what do you mean your friend was going to build it was it originally a 318 car and he was gonna make it a 6 pack?

This car is a U code 440 Magnum Charger R/T, and he bought a V code 440 sixpack Charger R/T.

I was going through the trunk and the matching numbers transmission was in the trunk. I found the dual painted racing mirrors in the trunk too! Being a California speced car,no dual exhaust machine gun tips, it has the standard rear valence pan. I have a nice dual exhaust rear valence pan for the car, the machine gun tips are a must on every 71 Charger R / T!

The 71 Charger R / T is rock solid. The 66 Belvedere is a very solid car,it has some bubbles on the lower quarters but other than that it is in real good shape. It was a drag car for many years.

My 71 u code SE charger has the same deficiency.

Reagan was a great president but don’t like his affect on the law he signed while being governor of California with regards to noise ordinance.

This is like your 50th charger right? nice car looks solid.

Solid is an understatement,if not for my 70 Road Runner convertible,I would put my welder on craigslist! I currently have 8 second gens and 5 third gens. I have had around 150 Chargers over the years.

I fixed that issue today!

So my friend and I have been trying to tell people for years what a difference buying a car from the west coast is compared to cars for the east or north America. This 71Charger R/T is nothing short of amazing. I look at the Road Runner convertible project above this car on my lift, and think to myself what the Fu*k are you thinking fixing that bisque! But it's a 70 Road Runner convertible, that's why! But this Charger is ready for paint now! It's been here for only a few days and it's ready for paint! So tonight I put the dual exhaust rear valance pan on and I put the quarter panel end caps on, and the rear bumper with the R/T taillights! I had to see them in place! The rear bumper shows what an original bumper with 51 year old chrome looks like if it has never seen road salt!

I installed the last 15 inch rallye wheel on the car. It had 14 inch ones on it when I got the car! I have 15x7 wheels up front and 15x10 inch on the rear 255 60 15s up front and 295 50 15s on the rear!

This is the fender tag for the 71 Charger R/T. It also had a second tag with a few larger numbers and letters on it. I am guessing that they are inspection stamps.

A few pictures of the car as found by the former owner, before my friend bought it. The date says March 7th 2001.

I found shreds of a build sheet, an Arizona title and a receipt for a Charger left front fender from Desert Valley Auto parts. The fender was $432 in October of 2001!
