I was wondering if u run valve springs that have the dampener spring do you need to machine the step at bottom of valve guide? Or do the dampener spring sit on it? Thanks

No, you should not have to. These are also not dual springs, just singles with a dampener.

Oh comp cam calls them dual springs they are the 986-16 springs. Can you run the regular valve seals with a setup like this? The inner spring ID is .697 the guide is like .654?

No you can not. I would use 515-16 metal clad valve seals for 0.530" guides, and 3/8" valve stems. The guides will have to be machined for this seal.

When you said there was a dampener, you didn't mention the inner spring. When an outer spring does, or does not have a dampener, it is considered a single spring. In response to your original question about machining the spring pad for the DUAL springs, it is not necessary. The difference is taken up by the spring retainer. You did get the spring retainers; Steel 740-16 (10 degree), Lightweight tool steel 1730-16 (10 degree), or Titanium 730-16 (10 degree) didn't you?
