So, today i was bored and looking over the engine on the Coronet. The Temp guage and fuel gauge dont work, which i was going to chalk up to the voltage limiter.

But, i was looking and the temp sender is not hooked up.

I am thinking the car still has the 318 wiring harness, as i found the temp sender wire, tucked under the coil. It is the little single wire type.

The 440 decodes as a 1970, it has a two bladed sender on it, screwed into the water pump housing. Is this for a light? It has a pretty big hex on it, bigger looking than the single wire units.

i looked through part numbers for different size 1969 and 1970 cars with 318s and 440s and they all use the same little sender.

kinda confused

Every temp sensor I have seen for the early MoPars had the single stud, and in 1970 it should be on the right side pointing to the radiator. The wire going to it should have a little plastic 90 deg boot on it. I also think the sensor 1/8" pipe.

Yeah, every one i have ever seen has looked like that too.

I will take a picture and see what everyone thinks in a bit.

Picture of water pump housing, and two bladed sender. Yeah, my screw was loose.

sender wire, too short, probably because its still using the 318's harness.

plug on upper left side of housing, i have never seen a sender here though

wont post the pictures themselves for some reason.

That sender location is found on the early big blocks, but with the 1/8" pipe, so I wonder if this is a late model water pump housing. That two prong sender could be for an aftermarket gauge. The pic with the 1/8" pipe plug is the correct location for the sender and the wire pictured is the temp sender hookup.

Sender

The sender wire should be violet. Try touching it to GROUND to see if the gauge works. Won't fix the gas gauge but you will know about the temp.
I can't find diagrams, but I wonder if maybe that 2 prong was something to do with a climate control like on a 5th Ave or Imperial.

I was thinking that too, some one put a later housing on it.

Yep, look at Auto Zone p/n TU42 temp switch for 70 Imperial 7.2 4 bbl.
They have the 1/8/ sender also $6.99

Hmmm thanks, wonder if thats what the whole engine came of.
