I thought you were supposed to have them as your car sits normally. So like on a drive on ramp/lift where the contact points are just the tires.
That's how I understand my Hotchkis ones have to be put on.
Do a search on FBBO with your title. I did a thread on the same subject a couple of years ago and got a couple of hundred responses. This was a hot topic with tons of good input. I didn't end up welding mine for no particular reason. Wish I had.
I drove my Satellite up on Rhino ramps and then jacked the rear end up and set it on another pair of ramps. I had plenty of clearance and weight was still on the tires.
I have done one with the car on jack stands (frame) When I was done the doors would not shut right. Now Ive done 3 more since then. I talked to a friend who builds drag cars. The car needs to be on its wheels. Put it up on blocks, measure & make sure the car is level front to back. Also tie the frame connectors to the floor. If you don't your doing no good. Remember the original frame is also welded to the floor. Good luck & let us know how you make out.
The concept is to make the BODY stiff so it does not twist giving yo a bit better handling and a better ride. At least this is how I interpret it anyway, I am sure I will be disputed in this. However, speaking from EXPERIENCE, I put mine on jack stands when it was nothing but a shell, no additional weight from suspension or drive train, which is how it would have happened on the assembly line. My doors ar e fine, the ride is awesome, the handling is great.
