My 318 car has a column shift automatic.
What exactly is involved in making it a 4 speed car?

I haven't gone through all of my parts from a 2nd car, but I believe that I have :
4 speed trans
pedal assembly
stock clutch parts

thanks

Brewers has a list of parts for a swap. I am not sure on a 318 crank if it is drilled for the pilot shaft bushing.

Steering column for a floor shift auto or 4 speed.

What kind of car? PP1RT is right,... Brewer's Performance can supply you with everything you need. If your crank isn't drilled for a pilot bushing, you have an issue, but there are ways to solve it. The cast crank on my Barracuda wasn't drilled. What the previous owner did on mine was press a roller bearing (Brewer's sells them) into the recess in the back of the crank that the nose of the torque converter registers into. You will then have to cut about an inch off the input shaft so it will go into the new bearing, but not hit the back of the crank. Other than having your crank drilled, I don't know of another option.

Brewer's also sells the collars for your steering column to remove the shift mechanism for the shifter and cover it like floor shift models were. I just bought all the parts to convert my Charger to 4spd from them. I will try to cut and paste the parts list into here. The quote was a PDF, so I can't find a clean way to copy it over, so I had to copy sections at a time into a word document and try to reformat them. Bear with me if it looks a little funky when it posts. There are options for certain things listed in the first price column. Only the ones chosen show a price in the far right price column.

Please remember that this list is for the conversion on a big block. Your smallblock will have different parts. This is just to give you a list to give you an idea of parts needed, and approximate price. Get with Brewer's performance to get a quote of your own, and your own parts list.

Keep in mind, ..... this reply just got long!

Yeah,... It lost the spacing and alignment, but I thing it is still clear enough to get an idea of what all is needed. Keep in mind that if there are two prices listed, the second one indicates it was the chosen option for like items. For example,... if there are multiple clutch kits, the one with two prices is the one that was chosen.

This might be easier to follow, plus you can save the images for reference. (Click on the pictures for a better view)

thanks for the responses.
It's a 1970 Coronet
It's an all original running, driving 318 car with A/C. I haven't decided on the conversion yet. I haven't put that many miles on her. I purchased it, then immediately pulled the dash , bought a new harness, and sent the ac box out to be rebuilt.
I haven't put it all back together yet.

Does the auto transmission need to be out of the car in order to install the 4 speed hump?
Can the dash and a/c components be in the car when the hump is installed?

I'm just trying to figure out if I can get the car back on the road, drive it for the summer, and do the conversion a bit at a time

If you have a 318, you probably also have a 904 automatic in there and an 8 1/4" rear. You will probably have to change your driveshaft too, maybe new yokes and u joints.

FrnkNsteen gave you a very comprehensive list. When I converted my 70 RR to a 4 speed, I sourced the parts from multiple places, took me over a year, but probably cost me $1500 less. I did use a Passon rebuilt 4 speed.

You could weld the 4 speed bump in place now and then cut out the tunnel area behind it when you're changing transmission. Just make sure someone is watching for fire underneath during the weld!
