67 coronet with a 440 plus .060. 10 to 1 compression, 509 cam, 390 gears, 1 7/8 hooker headers, M-1 single plane intake, Holley 750 dbl pumper, 906 heads home ported w/oversize valves. I have 3 inch pipes go into 2 chamber flowmasters and dump in front of the rear axle. I want to put on some tail pipes. should I go with 3 inch or will 2 and 1/2 work fine? its a street driven car thanks for the input

I'm running 3" all the way out and it doesn't seem to be an issue. I don't even uncap the headers at the track.

Another opinion: Since it's a STREET car, I would price the 2 1/2" tailpipes verses the 3". If the cost difference is minimal, go with the 3". If the cost difference is a lot (my guess), I'd put the money somewhere else. Doubt whether you will notice a difference on the street.

dual 2 1/2" for everything up to 450/470 hp ....anything larger your waisting your money

If you look at factory duals, normally, they have a 1/4" smaller tailpipe. "Supposedly" this helps bottom end torque......and it may but only on the mildest of engines. I think anything moderately above stock would benefit from no reduction in size. Don't forget that exhaust pipe is measured from the outside diameter, not the inside.

That's a good point. And that being the case exhaust pipe is really tubing. Tube is called out on the OD and pipe on the ID.
